Wow sad news although I never heard of him or seen his work. I just watched the video clip from the article and now I am glad to be exposed to it. I will have to look those up. Pretty inspiring seeing how this was all made inside of a converted shed and using homemade items.

small films stories are very engaging, i grew up with noggin the nog, the clangers, ivor the engine, pogles wood and Bagpuss.

I've recently bought the noggin the nog dvd set from here>>
http://www.dragons-friendly-society.co.uk/ and ivor the engine, bagpuss and the clangers are available from amazon.co.uk

noggin the nog website

i've also been looking at doing some cutout style animation like that of nogging the nog and ivor the engine and have found toonboom studio to be ideal when combined with drawings
from painterX.

Very sad news. I saw this on the Breakfast News. Like a whole generation I loved his films.

"Even Bagpuss himself, once he was asleep was just an old, saggy cloth cat; baggy, and a bit loose at the seams. But Emily loved him."

Man, Bagpuss would tame the most unruly kids. Sad news indeed.

Oliver's voice in Noggin the Nog was one of the charms of my childhood.

A true poet for children. And that voice....! It's so easy in CG to get tangled up in technique. If ever you need an example to kick yourself out of that, take in an episode of Bagpuss.

I spoke to him often when I was at BBC TV, he was a very kind man and I'm very sorry to learn of this sad news. My sincere condolences to his family.
