Title: retro future russian skimmer miniature
Name: christophe desse
Software: Digital Fusion, Maya, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush
i did create this piece for the upcoming gnomon master class
where i would be showing the workflow involved in the creation of this retro future russian skimmer .
- doing the uv using the free maya plugin diamant uv tools from www.tools3d.com
- texturing and a little bit of detailling in zbrush
- shading and render layer / multipass rendering setting in maya
- compositing in digital fusion and finishing in cs
my target was to make it look like a small diorama , hence the exagerated use of DOF
the little guys are running around trying to refuel it in time to go back in the sky

This is really nice. :wavey:
There are just some minor "faults", the most viewers don't even recognize at first glance.

awesome! I saw your Master Class in Gnomon and was really great with so much knowledge and information I needed. I have a question, when you make this art do you make a story and then make the art? or just from and idea you have? Thanks!

Nice image. Mostly I like it, but I have couple critics... By mine opinion, main problem for me is background; personally I will chose lighter background (if is miniature, I will set it to be on some desk, probably with some tools used to make it, and some blueprints), because with this black background, some of details that are in shadows, blend with background and cant be seen.... And second thing I will change a color of suites of those guys, to be exact, reduce a bit saturation of diffuse map. They are a bit to colorful, and they in some images look like they are not part of that image, like they ware added later in photoshop....
And last thing, I will ad some rust and dirt to chrome parts, especially on exhaust....
This is just mine opinion, and regardless all of this, I still think that this is great image, and great models!
