Mental ray disappears?

Ha yea this seems to be an undocumented 'feature' as I've never been able to work out how to stop it. Not a major problem though, just go to Window>Settings/Preferences>Plug in Manager

Look for Mayatomr.mll and once you've found it check load and auto-load (for what it's worth). Sometimes it's possible to go for days or weeks without it disappearing, other times just mere sessions - so it seems to be completely random. Maybe have a search in the maya forums, there may be a thorough explanation/solution in there.

If you hold down ctrl and shift when you click on Plug-in Manager though, it will send an icon to your shelf which you can use to quickly access that window if it happens in the future, which is convenient enough for me.

Thanks again cameo, im just learning this in my degree but dont get any support for maya as the uni focuses on lightwave so i have to pretty much learn it on my own. Thanks again
