Three Editions
EXPOSÉ is being published in three editions simultaneously - standard soft cover, hard cover and the Limited Edition hand-bound leather cover.

Quality Quality Quality
We've gone way over the top. In every way we have pushed the envelope to create the highest quality art book possible. Not only are the individual images works of art but you wouldn't believe how we agonized over and strove to make the page layouts works of art in their own right. This obsession with perfection even impacts things like the choice of background color, paper stock, print processes, finishing varnishes, book binding, packaging -- even shipping! Find out more about how we made the book:

Hey guys, yes all you need to do is to go through the ordering process again. We made this decision based on the fact that too many people who reserved their copies were emailing in asking us to cancel their reservations as they wanted to buy the Limited Edition instead!

Hope that makes sense. We won't be following up with people who reserved their copies past the email that I just sent.

Best,

Leonard

Hey, this might have been asked before hand, but I just read briefly over the topic. Do I need to reorder for indication?

I did get an e-mail telling that the book was reserved for me around the same time I ordered it (5-6 weeks ago), but I didn't get another...maybe I'm just confused.

I do however; have another household member who shares the e-mail account. I may need to ask them if they received an e-mail from you at a later date, and removed it.

Hi,

I am an artist from a Hong Kong CG production company. Your book is so great that many people of my company wants to own one. I would like to buy around 10 to 20 softcover edition of the book, but we found that the shipping cost of 3 editions is the same. The shipping and handeling cost is around 1/3 of the cost which seems not very reasonable.
.

I would like to know:
1. Why the shipping cost is the same for all 3 edition?
2. Is there any other shipping method which is cheaper?
3. Howcome I don't find any discount using the order web form?

Thanks for your attention

The web page with bulk discounts is online at http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/discounts.html

The shipping is the same for all editions as they all weigh about the same -- 1 Kg.

We have to pay the same shipping UNLESS we can get over 20Kg or 40Kg to one address. The Soft Cover book weighs 840g so if you can find more people in Hong Kong to make up the numbers to 47 then we can get a *much* better shipping rate -- or we can still get a good rate for 20 Kg which is 25 books.

Please email Helen directly to organize this order and the exact shipping rate helen@cgCharacter.com

This goes for anyone else too -- if you can get 25 or more books together on one order to one address then contact us directly for the shipping rates and the discount.

Hello mark and leonard. Leonard you didn't understand my question. I have received an email that stated that I can get a special edition of the book cause I'm in. And it stated that I will be contacted later for the specifics on how to order this book. Well I haven't received any mail!!! So how long is it going to take to build this page? Or is it set up and I haven't received any mail??

All transactions are processed immediatley -- and are held as a full price deposit which is fully refundable untill the orders ship at which time the sale is complete.

At time of shipping we will email the recipent with confirmation of shipment and tracking information for the shipment -- so you can track it yourself on-line.

just a little explanation of why it's taken a while to get emails out to artists...

It's compicated! ... thats why. There are 360 or so images in the book ... but only about 230 "artists". Now you would think that we should just allocate one book per artist -- wrong. Some of those 260 "artists" are actually corporate entries where two or more artists worked on one image. So our dilema is what to do? ... as usual we leaned on the generous side and decided that no "artist" should miss out. We havn't been able to get the accurate list of all contributing "artists" untill late today when we finished the index in the book -- and we are all at crash point with exhaustion. THe artists order page and email is being prepared as I type this .... just hang in there.

MarkSnoswell

The Limited Edition is very cheap for what it is for two reasons:

1. We are selling it directly -- usually most of cost of a book goes to the middlemen who distribute and sell it. By selling diretly we cut those costs out.

2. We're not greedy -- In fact the Limited Edition should really have started up at th AUS $149 price it will be at after July1st -- if there are any left! We thought "what the heck" so it's a bit cheap -- for this first issue lets give people something special... and we hope that everyone that gets a Limited Eddition will show it off to everyone they can and ancourage everyone to go on line and buy a copy for themselves !!

Posters:
Yea -- we want to select some images for promotional pasters and banners -- and whatever else makes good sense. But there are no firm plans yet -- we are just concentrating on getting the book through the printers and tout to everyone. ... perhaps once the book is out we can have some "readers votes" on what images you think are best and you would like to se in posters -- whatever works for everyone.

Yes - please do that. An email was sent out last week to everyone that reserved their copies to go order their copies online. All the previous pre-registrations were discarded as the majority of people decided to change their orders to the limited edition after seeing its true value.

Thanks

The book looks well worth buying. Just wondering though, did the issue with the Hyun Kyuongup picture being very heavily influenced by someone else's compositional work get resolved?

http://ocad.syste.ms/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1158

Does the guy who did the original picture get a credit of some sort?

MarkSnoswell

Bunch of answers:

Credit Card transactions go through immediatly. It shoul appear on your account in the next reporting period for your card. You can get up to 55 days credit free depending on your bank and the timing of the transaction.

SIGGRAPH -- we will have books with us to show people... and there will be books in transit and just delivered to people by the time SIGGRAPH starts. Unfortunatly there was just no time to get books to SIGGRAPH in bulk for sale in the book stars. Next year there will be -- in fact we are looking at having our own stand next year :)

Blitz: We immediatly rectified (did not include) the only potential copyright infringment image we were informed about. There were a number of images that were also automatically disqualified as they were clearly in potential violation of copyright of current major films and actors. It appears that many younger artists aren't aware that almost exact replication of a copyrighted work is deemed to be an infringment of the original copyright.
We have not heard of any other potential issues -- including the one you note. It's not possible fo us (the editors) to do anything unless someone informs us!... and we would need credible information from the the artist claiming a copyright credit. The entry forms require artists to attest that they are,and to corectly credit, the copyright holders.
By the time the book goes to print there will be a listing of all images (with thumbnails of images) and details on the web. If there are any copyright issues or changes in information that we are told about they will *immediatly* be updated on the web.

However the email I recieved just says I have pre-oredered it (shouldnt it say I have bought it ?), it says nothing about me paying for it and giving me a reciept.

My email says I pre-oredered number 167 at the cost of 119 dollars but normally when I buy items online I get an email with my credit card details.. shipping address etc.

Pre-Order language clarification & Bulk Shipping.

AH -- let me explain about the language used as it's important to correct accounting. A pre-order indicates that a transaction is in progress -- the transaction is completed when the item is shipped. Untill it's shipped it's a pre-order with a deposit (fully paid) on the sale. If that's confusing don't worry -- it's all got to do with correct accounting and us not getting a huge tax bill before we have shipped the books! We'll start sending confirmation emails to everyone next next week and then from then on as orders come in -- with order details and planned shipping dates. That will also be an opportunity to issue the actual numbers assigned to Limited Edition sales -- the order numbers people saw are agregate order numbers from our system that includes all editions. Everything is working very smoothly :) -- although there is a lot to organize! ... so just bear with as as everything rolls out!

As of late this afternoon I also have exact figures for bulk shipments and we will start sending out information to all those people who have requested bulk shipments and reseller info (bookstores and dealers).

MarkSnoswell
06-24-2003, 03:19 PM
LOL ... Leonard and I are both posting responses at the same time :) ... both correct with different parts of the answers.

So. I'll take this opportunity to say some more on shipping.
Today we finalized an agreement with FedEx for shipping globally. We already knew shipping rates pretty well and so this doesn't have any effect on orders you have already placed. It does mean that we have the exact bulk shipping rates now and so we will start ramping up the direct bulk orders and the list of resellers who want to handle the books.
All books will be individually shrink wrapped -- so even in bulk orders thy cant get scuffed rubbing against each other (we gota prevent all that rubbing up against each other on long trips or they will breed and we'll get lots of little booklets by the time they arive -- oh that was a bad joke -- time to get some sleep). All shipments will also be insured and people will get emailed shipping tracking information as soon as their books ship -- so everyone can track their books on-line.
... anyway. lots more information as time goes on. We will update the web site with lots of new information and email eveyone whith orders with updated information on shipping etc. as soon as we can.

if I am reading the ballisticpublishing site correctly, there will only be 999 limited edition copies?

What happens to those of us who ordered a limited edition and the charge went through but the edition number (or order number ) is way higher than 999?

If it is approved does that mean we will get one or does the order number not really relate to the amount of copies available?

I see on the homepage that it mentions 234 copies left.
