View Full Version : Animated Textures on Facing Particles

Hi there if anyone could help out, i'd really appreciate it (unfortunately in a non-monetarily rewarding way)

i'm trying to apply a 150 frame fire anim (sequence of still tga files) to a facing-polygon particle system in max

however the animations are all synchronised - the anim isnt linked to the birth of the particle, everything starts and finishes at the same time

so is there a way to do this? it seems like it should be incredibly simple so am i just missing out on something staring me right in the face?

i suspect its a limitation of max, the ifl file for the image sequence seems to need to define a global start and end frame rather than specific to each particle

anyhoo, scratching my head and having adulterous thoughts on maya in the meantime

pixelherder,

Sounds like a job for Particle Flow.. Unfortunately, this cannot be done using standard max-particles, unless you use multiple particle systems, each with its own unique material..

unfortunately my company's budget doesnt stretch to new software, and i doubt i have the time to learn it even if i did...

...seems crazy that something like this cant be done out of the box, its so obvious its ridiculous

apparently theres someone on the discreet forums who might have an answer but he's only replied to say he wont tell me (something about my account not being valid...?!...)

IF he spills the beans i'll get back to you

You need to use your real name on the discreet forums, that's all
