View Full Version : Fresnel And Specular Falloff
Kaiser_Sose 06-19-2003, 02:32 PM I am going to be texturing a party balloon and I am used to using fresnel and specualr falloff in LW and c4d
How can I get these two effects and if anyone knows how to texture a party balloon in maya, I am listening

well i'm originally from lw but as far as i understand it fresnel in maya are made out of a phongE with a ramp (U Ramp; Linear) set before.....hope that helps you at least a bit

To get the fresnel effect, you can create a ramp and a sampler info node, connect the facing ratio attribute of the sampler node to the u and v coord attributes of the ramp node. You need to use the connection editor to do this. Then just connect the ramp outColor or outAlpha to whatever you need to in your shader. The ramp will be a black to white gradient for what you are wanting.

If you use a Blinn material the Specular Roll Off attribute controls the fresnel effect. Lower values give a stronger effect.
