Hey guys, wonder if you can help me out here. I am currently modeling a character using cps and im wondering if there is any way I can delete the history of the high rez without losing it's connection to the low rex. Ive messed around with the connection editor a little. How exactly does cps connect the low rez to the Hirez? My scene gets pretty bogged down when the high rez layer is visible. Thanks guys -Rmac36:D

Your hirez model shouldn't have much history since your not working on it, right? I mean all the construction history is on the lowrez, and that is perfectly deletable. Isn't it simply too dense?
If I'm not totally mistaken the hirez' shape node is sort of driven by a polysmooth node connected to the lorez' shape node.

Yeah that would seem to be the case, but I tried deleting the history of the hirez, it sped things up quite abit. only problem was it was no longer connected to the low rez.

Although the high rez is quite dense as i am new to modeling and I cant figure out how you guys keep your poly count so low, while still acheiveing such incredible detail.

Anyway thanks for your comments -rmac:thumbsup:

Rmac,

What up brother?????
Just use the command in the CPS control box to sever the connection between the hi-rez and and low-rez...... and keep the base geometry. Now delete the hi-rez geometry and delete the history on the low-rez. Now reapply CPS. Thats about as clean as you're gonna get. But like Graf said you shouldn't have history on the hi-rez since the low-rez is driving it. All of the history collects on the low-rez. Holla at cha lata.

Oh yeah good choice for the avatar..... thats funny.

yeah, just to make it clear - You can delete the history of the low-rez poly cage and the connection to the hi-rez will NOT be deleted. You shouldnt be able to select the hi-rez mesh anyway, as its layer is set to reference by default.
You can increase/decrease the amount of smoothing on the hi-rez mesh using the CPS control toolset using the top two buttons (the + and - ). Select the low-rez cage and press one of the buttons to see the effect. When modelling, I often flick between zero smoothing and one, then occasionally pop it up to two levels if i want to render it.

Thanks Guys great advice! it all makes alot of sense. Never thought about lowering the rez of the hi rez. Good idea.

Still dont know why my high rez had history though. oh well doesnt matter. tanks -rmac
