CGTalk - soft select keys

when I select soft select settings from the track view menu (either dope sheet or f-curve), a floater seems to pop-up for an instant and then goes away.
Try again and nothing whatsoever happens, I have no way to change my settings then. Same happens on a colleagues machine.
Is this a documented bug, any body knows a way around it?
