View Full Version : Flash movie short "The Nun Race"
bigray 06-19-2003, 07:52 AM Howdy Y'all,
Long time lerker, first time poster. I have been working on the Flash movie on an off for the past month. I only have a few more art tweaks to do and then add audio. So just wanted to share it and possibly get feed back before investing myself into the audio side.
It is a silly story with no real point other than giving me a chance to challenge myself and have fun. I hope you enjoy it, even in it's incomplete state.

Hehe that's great. I really enjoyed it. Keep going with it. Can't wait to watch it with audio.

That was great! Looked pretty much pro to me.
Might I suggest adding some pics so people can see some shots before going through the 2 links to get to the movie? Some people are too lazy and won't do more than look or hit just one link to see something. Use some bait.

If you donīt mind iīd like to humbly suggest an other ending for your movie :)
Show the two holes for a moment or two, then make the two nuns come out as angels, continuing their race flying - up to heaven. But as they get there, the first nun (the one that did glide out on oil) is already there, grinning at them and slamming the gates of heaven shut before them.

DocBoom, I like your idea. :)
I had originally thought about making the nuns become angels but I could not come up with a good/fun way to end that scenario.
Anyway thank you for the idea, I have already started on some sketches. I think my big challenge will be doing the angel's wings animation. (I like challenges)
Current Status: work has been busy and I'm not very good at sound but, I do have about three scenes fixed up with sound effects right now and hope to get some more sound in this weekend.
thanks again.

I just wanna second Doc Boom's idea....
The 'race' can be much quicker then.
The spanner in the works does not read too well.
The eyes should move with the head
When they both google eyes at the dead end road, don't do them exactly together...shift one set eight frames (probably the one not on foot..)
Nice simple design...keep em coming.

Sorry for the long wait, I got very busy at work and only had time to sleep or wind down. Anyway, I added audio tweaked the scenes and added DocBoom suggested ending.
I'm not completely happy with the sound but it is my first attempt at sound so I'm going to let it slide.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Please point out problems, I may not fix them in this particular movie but I'd like to be aware of what to improve on for my next movie. (I'm planning on doing more frame animation)

Very nice bigray - this sure was worth the extra work!
One (tiny) thing: The part where the nuns race up to heaven as angels... imho it isn't very clear that they are continuing their race. Maybe you could show their feet, like you did in an earlier scene. Although they are flying, i think it would show that they still compete with each other (hope this is making sense... :) )
ps: sorry for the late answer... and thx for the credits :D

:) Thanks DocBoom, I was wondering if you would return and see it. I think I will try out the runing legs, it might be interesting.
I'm still coming up with some ideas for my next animation. I'm planning to do more drawn animation and less move and rotate like I did for this one.
Not too shabby :) I like it! Everything else has been touched upon it seems
