I'm finally almost free of my heavy load of school work 4 this, my last semester of college so I'm able to do more sketches and finalize my designs. This 1 is more or less geared toward the overall attitude, although I'm still trying to figure out the parts I wanna highlight. Any suggestions/crits are greatly welcomed :D

Ok, I think I have the pose I want in mind so now I'm considering using parts that make more sense than what I already have. I have a basic understanding of gears, compression and pulley systems and so forth so I'm working with that 4 now 'til I'm ready to layout the final stuff, which is hopefully soon!

Just trying to finalize the head and torso for the minotaur. I've just about narrowed it down now

Yup! I've finally completed my sketch! Here it is, the final design. Now I'm FINALLY off to colouring :D

Finished my pallet selection. The background is reference to help with tone, lighting etc. I'm enjoying this quite a lot so far :) Learning as I go along...

Ok so I've began my detailed rendering but i'm at a crossroads... Should I use this colour 4 part of the suit or should I implement Minotaur colour 2's colour?
Need some help plzzz

Adjusting the background and setting the mood for the final piece-to-come...

Ok, firstly, a million thanks to my lil bro who's been my biggest (& only) help throughout this project. He's given me good advice in the forms of, "I prefer this" and, "Yea, I like that." Many many thanks!
With that said, I just did a colour adjustment and tailored some of the final details. Some more prep work, so to speak, for the final piece to come.
Now's time for the heavy rendering of the cliff then background...

First of all - great character design. I suggest on using a dark tone in your colors And ensure you give a worn off feeling to the texture. Dark and Dusty is my tip.
Good Luck!

A bit more definition. I think I'm more confident in the mood of the piece so now I'll focus on extra fine details of the cliff and minotaur. I'll soon post the story behind it as well...

"I never got 2 do 3D modeling cuz a course I HAD 2 take clashed with it on my time table in college" - YOU!
Hey buddy- I never went to 3d classes. Yes you read right. I NEVER went to 3d classes. I learned all this by myself and from the best - THE INTERNET.
During my education n 3d CGSOCIETY has been a major knowledge provider for me. Yet it was recently that I joined these forums. And Kori- never underestimate yourself...your character is really interesting to me. I really love the design.
Good Luck!
Thank you very much. I think I jus needed to hear that considering the fact that I feel somewhat drained after a lot of work 4 my final year project, jobs and this as well. I almost have an "artist block" so I'm focusing all my creative energy into this 1 piece in hope that the end result will re-awaken my fiery drive. Again, thank you so much and I look forward to seeing ur work in the finals. All the best 2 u as well
Hey Kori,
Nice concept, and cool design for the minotaur, great! Like a lot your idea. Perhaps on the backgroun you can add some distant cliffs, only a comment :) Nice work and looking forward for more updates! Cheers!!

FINALLY, some details on my Minotaur. Rusty as ever in a cosmic world created by the wish of a child... Story behind concept up next! :D
Thanks for the comment Ferx. That was actually my initial idea, but afterwards I kinda moved beyond that idea and ended up here with a nebula background. It's funny how the patterns look like rocks tho so I guess I haven't totally tossed it out the window

Your concept is coming along nicely. I like the colors and contrast between dark and light. Keep up the good work

more details... I enjoyed how this arm texture turned out. It's somewhat of a maze armlet.

Here's some facial details. The eye was the last thing I did actually. Didn't realize I had done no rendering on it until I was doing some cleanup :D

Did some levels adjust. The image keeps losing the gradients once I prepare the file for uploads. Ne1 have any idea as to how to prevent this? If there's no way around it til the final work then I'll just submit print screens to hopefully solve the problem

Hey every1, Happy Holidays! Just another update, tryin 2 figure out what's nest for the piece. ANy suggestions, crit at this point is WELL appreciated. Anyway, the story behind my piece will be ready and posted for my final upload, which is hopefully before the new year, cuz after that my work load will be ridiculous. Thanks again 4 all the suggestions thus far.

Here's a look at the BG. Although I'm working with a fantasy theme and I have the celestial thing goin on here, I'm contemplating a semi-rock feeling to the BG to better match the style of the piece. Which is better tho, the original or modified?

I think the background with the brightness in the background is a step in the right direction, I would try to work back towards that, but rather then make it all white, work it into more of a smoke or take it in a completely different direction. To me it feels like you need the background and the foreground to be a little more integrated and not just two separate images. Good work though, keep it up!

Happy Holidays everyone! Hope u all had a wonderful Christmas and are looking 4ward 2 a great new year. I had 2 take a break cuz my right wrist began acting up (still is) due to the long hours on this piece. Nevertheless my aim is 2 finish b4 the finals and that's what's gonna happen. I did some light adjustment on the piece, mainly on the Minotaur and I think what will project the piece a bit further is 2 have some thick greyish blue smoke from the Minotaur. Any suggestions otherwise are always welcomed.
I know I said I would post the concept next, then said I wouldn't, but I've grown impatient with myself for not posting it so here it is:
In the story of the Minotaur that lived on the island of Crete, Theseus came and killed it with the help of a princess. My concept however, is a twist in the story’s end. Instead of Theseus killing the Minotaur, he made a deal with him; he offered to rescue him from his labyrinth prison if he would forever be the companion of a small boy. The Minotaur, not happy with the lives he’d taken, agreed to Theseus’ demands and was freed. He was presented to the boy atop a mystical cliff and from which point on, the Minotaur spent all his years protecting him. Every year, the Minotaur and the boy returned to the cliff to pay respect to the lives he’d taken and recollect his moment of freedom and friendship. :)

Some additional lighting, soften edges, textured grass, smoke tweaked... Now time for final cleanup and last minute details. Almost home...

Added details: shooting stars, cliff, smoke, grass
Toned down: background
Softened: lines, cliff edge
Final image up next

In the story of the Minotaur that lived on the island of Crete, Theseus was said to have killed it with the help of a princess. My concept however, is a twist in the story?s end.
When the third sacrifice approached, Theseus volunteered to slay the monster and promised to his father, Aegeus, that he would put up a white sail on his way back home if he was successful, but have the crew put up black sails if he was killed.
In Crete, Ariadne, the daughter of Minos, fell in love with Theseus and helped him navigate the labyrinth, which had a single path to the centre. She gave him a ball of thread, allowing him to retrace his path. When Theseus arrived at the heart of the labyrinth, he found himself a gigantic beast whose body was the size of his ship.
Theseus stared at the Minotaur as the Minotaur stared at him. Through these stares Theseus? objective changed. Instead of killing the Minotaur, he made a deal with him; he offered to rescue him from his labyrinth prison if he would forever be the companion of a small boy. The Minotaur felt the fearlessness of Theseus through his stares and the tone of his voice. The Minotaur, not happy with the lives he?d taken, agreed to Theseus? demands and was freed.
Theseus navigated his way out of the labyrinth with the aid of the thread and took the long way home. He instructed his sailors to tell everyone the Minotaur was slain, while he set out on a different path. Theseus made his way to an island just about three miles from his home, where he would meet the boy. At one end of the island was a mystical cliff; a cliff so tall it kissed the heavens which was said to cry stars. It was the Minotaur?s final destination.
Theseus found the boy atop the cliff and presented him with the Minotaur. It was from that point on that the Minotaur spent all his years protecting him. Each year since their meeting, the Minotaur and the boy return to the cliff to pay respect to the lives he?d taken and watch as the heavens cried.
