great job! good music...
U definitely have some great stuff in there! I totally dug the presentation of all the different characters, was really pleasant to watch! The atmosphere as stated,. was really cool and the "story" was nice as well!
 very nice work!
Sorry Hostile, i have no lightwave experience at all. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Everything was done in XSI 2.0-3.01, textures in photoshop and a lot of compositing was done in Aftereffects and combustion 2.0.
Sorry no MPG versions, my FTP is maxed with the AVI's.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

As reels go the pacing is a bit on the slow side, and the music from Requiem for a Dream still sends shivers down my spine...
Overall though, great work, love the fact the the beast of burden has it's head facing the ground, really nice touch.

hello danb_vfs,my friend:)
I have posted my beast.

Your work is so great, my beast is poor...
but I did my best.
Thanks for the comments -
I agree that the pacing is a little slow.. Probably slower than I intended it to be, but I tried to keep the rotations upbeat and interesting, on which I hope I succeeded.
Yes, the animation is extremely limited, I had about a month to animate, and it took a backseat to the compositing/editing side of things.
After 7 months though, i'm ready to work on something else so hopefully this will carry me where ever i need to go for now, until I complete something new.
To answer your question about the maya class - It is whatever you put in to it. From what I've seen the maya program isnt' nearly as intensive as the 3d one - If it is still an option I would take the 3D course over the maya one.
Theres nothing to say you can't use maya to complete your project instead of XSI.
6 months to learn 3D, the software, and finish a demo reel isn't nearly enough time in my opinion.
CG - I'm flattered at your interest in my work, but no need to be so hard on yourself. You're work is fantastic.
Cheers

Awsome work Dan, I love the extras that you did in scholarship, the compositing touch and the weighty animation. The detail looks great, the face shapes add a lot, and the lighting sets the mood well. Very nice work.
So, like, what did you do with Lightwave?
By the way, I think you might want to take out the wireframes on your rotations. When I saw those, I could totally tell it was CG. Totally.
This string of emoticons expresses my opinion well ----> :buttrock: :arteest: :deal: <------

 This is Chien ko from class 3d39
I really like the cinematic feeling of the reel
Uhmm.... the dwarven guard looks like the character you did way back in term 2 and it's cool. The presentation is really beautiful.
I like the method you used to present your characters. My classmates and I all liked your x- ray wire frames.
 Maybe there is a sequel?

Hello dan,
watched your first reel and then your second .. chuckled a bit at how you flipped some of the scenes so now the characters are travelling the other way. OUTSTANDING. I love it. It's incredible.
  :applause:
TGG
* now I need to find the Jodyt Thread and tell her that HER reel was amazing as well. What do they feed you at the VFS??!
Koity - No the 3rd character isn't my term 2 character, but he is a dwarf too. The wireframe rotations were just done in aftereffects with lots of compositing tricks. Same with the lighting in many of the shots are just done with aftereffects.
I actually discovered I enjoyed compositing almost as much as modeling/texturing/rigging.
GreenGiant - I did flip the LOA, thought it made more sense from an editorial standpoint. And they dont feed us at VFS, we're forced to spend money and fend for ourselves.. maybe thats what helps motivate us to work hard and get jobs when we're finished.
Well, cheers guys.
