Theres the "Melt" modifyer that you can use.... but you would have to reverse it for the T2 effect. start with like sphere's and animate them coming together and then have the sword at a melted position then reverse it to become the sword itself while removing the blobs.... thats how i would do it anyway

p.s. you can also throw in the wind space warp to move around the blobs while they are going into oneanother

I hope I helped

Max in DOS
Oh Please! Don't bring back those painful memories

Hardnox : Good luck with your morphing effect. "Melt" is probably the easiest way to do what you're looking for. You can't go wrong if you follow Oikman's instructions. Unless you want to animate everything by hand...

See ya

once (late nineties, at the time i was using Softimage|3D), this blob-thingy seemed pretty popular and was called meta-balls or meta-clay. basically, you could put a bunch of blobs into a scene and define how they interact with each other. i remember there was a (commercial) max plugin that did this kind of stuff, too.

hell, some guys even used it as a modelling method ;) meta-clay as in Softimage was primarily useful for organic stuff - not really suited for technical models, though.

but as long as you're only looking for a way to render out such an animation, there surely are countless ways to fake it in post production.
