Great tutorials for 3Dmax.
Under tutorials there is a diver for ShagHair. If you learn to use the hair you will be able to figure out how to do the fur.

It is in French but you can always use the altavista translator.

Actually,
the Shaq fur settings/use is much simplier than Shaq hair so everybody should start with fur:p
