View Full Version : no NURBS solid in Maya?
hi, i came from Rhino3D background and just started learning Maya... i picked a NURBS box primitive and it turned out it's not a solid NURBS geometry. same as when i tried to import my Rhino model into Maya, they're all in hundreds separate pieces...
do i have to attach them all one by one manually or is there some other way?

Just group them..

NURBS surfaces are essentially just a square surface. No matter how elaborate you are shaping the NURBS surface, it remains a square. So, When you do a box it is six NURBS surfaces grouped together. To grab the whole box you'll have to pick the group node instead. pick one of the surfaces and then hit the up arrow to select their parent, the group node. Then transform.
hmm... so if u make a complex non organic object in nurbs and want to convert it to poly, u're basically in deep shit then??

Nope, just sew it all together if you want it as one mesh.

Yes, convert each NURBS surface to polys, combine and merge vertices and you're ready to go!
