View Full Version : Vehicle: Nissan R390 GT1
Dangeruss 06-19-2003, 01:26 AM A 1997 Nissan R390 GT-1 from that year's 24 hours of Le Mans.
The R390 GT1 took its name from a car, R380, that excited Japanese motor sports enthusiasts over thirty years ago. Jointly developed by Nissan and TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing), the R390 GT1 was the state of the art racing expertise at the time. Aerodynamically refined low and sleek body styling is suggestive of Nissan's highly competitive Gr. C machines raced during the 1980's.
Three R390 GT1's were entered in to the 1997 Le Mans event and, among them, the car No. 21 achieved a pole position in the pre-qualifying race. Although the overall result was rather discouraging, the R390's outstanding performance, displayed during the early stage of the race, was something to behold and promising for the year to come.

Various parts modeled in both CAD software and 3D Studio MAX. Textures and post processing accomplished with Photoshop.
Loads of raytraced materials in this one. Reflection environment and lighting done with a combination of HDRI and faked global illumination using Skyraider3d's E-light script. The scene is comprised of 447 objects totaling 347,000 polygons and 199 lights. Yes, 199 lights! 54 custom materials were created for this project. Time to completion: 2 weeks.

Wow, this is totally awesome, very good and clean modelling and texturing, very realistic.
Feel the holes between the front bumper and hood, because you can see the ground through it, and the AA looks a little low.
Great job:thumbsup:

The "red curly thing" is a tow ring that's fixed to the chassis, and used to move disabled cars during races, or for manuvering and idle car around the paddock during servicing. You'll often see a small utilty vehicle like a Kawasaki Mule pulling cars around. There's usually one in the rear as well.

WHAT!! This is unreal to say the least...I'd love to see a wireframe...
Only two things that bother me....One is the silver box next to the canisters...Looks like it's floating to me...
And the other thing is what looks to me like a shadow, on the right side of the car...The shadow is there in such a way that it looks like a curb to me...Anyone else see this or am I just an idiot?? I'm going the latter, but you guys be the judge..
Anyways, this is absolutely remarkable and those complaints I have can be overlooked...Plus you put a driver in there...Very impressive stuff...
ruM's OUT...

One thing that I just noticed is the round nissan logo at the front of the car is a bit messy on my monitor, and is it mean to be that color?
just a tiny detail, again, great work!
damn i love it!!!!! i like how the cars paint is not entirely perfect, on the front bumper it has a dirty look to it. After a second look, maybe the overall paint shouldnt be so glossy..
I'm a big fan of the automobile scenes and I think this one is very nice as well as clean. My favorite part is the garage surrounding the car.
Nice work!
Looks very good!
Crits:
- the alloy's seem to be made up from a lot of different parts, try to make it form a whole. http://www.ntoc.co.uk/Nissan%20Turbo%20Owners'%20Club%20Cars_files/R390_race_big.jpg < Like so (copy paste the entire link)
Nice texturing + environment: well done.

I looks really nice. The enviroment is totaly great. Car is also great but the car paint materials need to be a little adjusted. Try to put fall of diffuze map or frensel reflection.
:)
And last one thing. It is a little bit clean. Try to put some dirt there ( I mean in the enviromest) and some skids paths (? don`t know the word for the rubber from wheel - you know, when you are hard braking)
It is allways easy to citicise :) i know, it looks great but this coud make it look real

Amazing model, textures, and lighting.
The only crit I have has to deal with the decals on the car. They seem to be a bit too messy around the edges.

the angle at which the car is parked puts the far back tire on the curb, but the car isnt tilted like it should be if that is so. very nice...you just have to adjust its position

Simply Amazing! Great car in a great environment. A bit of motion blur on the wheels could be nice..

"the angle at which the car is parked puts the far back tire on the curb, but the car isnt tilted like it should be if that is so. very nice...you just have to adjust its position"
There's no curb. It is a shadow from an overhead lighting and utilities conduit. You can see the reflection on the paint and windscreen.

hi mate, I looked at your big pic today. Again I must say this is an incredible work, apart from the 'red curely thing' sticking out of the front, it looks a bit unreal...
crazy work, well done.
