Did this in Illustrator for class. Most of it is gradient mesh, the rest is flat shapes. No livetrace.

Some awesome clean meshwork. Nice job.
The tire looks too weird, though. Too colorful, too high contrast, too flat looking in the tread.

But that paint job is killer...

Thanks for the feedback. You're definitely right about the tire. I think the monitor I was working on at the time was a little bit dark, and by the time I realized it, it was time to turn it in.

At some point I'll go back and redo the tread on the tire, and I might try to go back and see what the bumper would look like as flat color.

I didn't know illustrator was capable of this. How many hours do you estimate this took? It would take me a day to do the headlights in illustrator.

I do think the road needs some texture though. I highly recommend you do that in photoshop. as far as the amazing tire treads go they could use some softer edges too.

Yeah, the tire tread and road were all made at the last minute, and it sort of shows. I'd like to stay with Illustrator for the ground, but I'm not sure how I could change it too much without spending a lot of time on it.

I think it took about 40 hours. I've learned a lot since then, and could probably cut it in half if I re-did it. If you lay your mesh lines out right, gradient mesh is a piece of cake, and much simpler than flat color, which I'm still not very good at. I'd like to tackle another reflective object sometime and write up a tutorial.

This self portrait took me about 20. The mesh is MUCH simpler, which made it take much less time. The more I use the tool the easier it gets to use a less dense mesh.
