View Full Version : Paint geometry
Nicool 06-18-2003, 09:10 PM Hye,
I want paint geometry to scatter them in my scene. So I want assign a geometry as a brush of the paint tool.
I've read a bit the doc... And the say to use geometryPaint function. It requires a string argument called $context (I don't know what it is):surprised
Have you already use it. Is their another way to paint geometry?
Thanks

Im not sure but I think it goes the other way... you can take brushs and make them into objects now in 5.0. there are many brushs already created. One reason you might need to convert to geometry is for mental ray rendering.

No... What I want is spread object with the pen of paint tool. I don't want convert a brush into a mesh.
So how to spread mesh (a sphere or a selected geometry) using paint tool. I've read the doc, the say we can use a script called "geometryPaint.mel".
How to use it? Is their an other way? :wavey:

first of all, model your surface that is to be "painted" on with geometry.....second, create your your object that is to be painted on......select your surface, go to Paint Effects> Make Paintable. Keep it selected.....Go to the Modify menu......all the way down to Paint Script Tool and click on the Options box......you should have your regular Artisan window pop up.....go to the bottom where it says Display...and click on that.....you should see a whole bunch of text fields. In the FIRST one called Tool Setup cmd.....enter this exactly.....
geometryPaint
that will bring up the geometry paint options.....there, you enter the name of your paint object, press enter, and then start painting away. The rest of the settings should be self explanatory.

Don't need to 'make paintable; just select the object to be painted on, after FIRST naming your painting object;
Go to the Modify Menu ---> script paint tool ---> type in 'geometryPaint' in the top field ----> the name your object in the new 'Geometry Paint Settings window ----->select object to be painted on, then hit 'Y' on the keyboard (bring up last tool) and paint ... ;)

I'm using Maya 6 + Bonus Tools and I get an error when typing in "geometryPaint":
// Error: Cannot find procedure "userPaintCtx". //
Anyone have an idea of what might be wrong?
