Heya,
Here's a question for the programmers out there:
Why isn't Maya along with most other 3D applications multithreaded?
A majority of renderers are multithreaded, so are some 2D compositing packages as well as a few game engines in addition to certain OS's. But the 3D packages themselves only utilize one processor.
It's easy for a layperson to just say 'multithread it!' but does the time needed to optimize an application as complex as Maya for 2 or more processors exceed the benefit? I figure that there would be 30-40% increase in speed across the board with multithreading enabled.
