it still needs lots of work but the start is very nice, the bump should be inverted it looks like the bricks are pointing inwards.

Yeah I see what you mean. I used Max on this one. What else do you think it needs. Maybe the lighting is too bright? I am trying to do something with the dirt opacity.

Okay. For a first scene, it's looking good. But you posted for some crits:
The brick: Yeah, the bump is off. But also, the texture is wrapping or somesuch above the door (in the shadows). I've never seen brick do that before. :)
The door: This should probably be more recessed into the wall, and gain a frame.
The trash bin: It looks almost like it's on top of one of those trash bags. Maybe pull the bag away to give it some more distinction. If it's that way on purpose, be aware that it makes it seem as though the dumpster is floating. The lid could use some more specularity, too. It looks very flat.
The moss/algae green texture -- this must be the dirt texture you're talking about. I'm sure you noticed that it is stretched in areas (it actually looks more like motion blur). Different type of mapping?
