View Full Version : Have a look at my F1 car

Please have a look at my F1 car and tell me what you think. If you have any tip that

possibly makes look better, then tell me. I use 3D Studio Max 5.1.

Please don't do any comments about dirt:) I havn't decided if I want to add that. I like

things shiny, but I also know that nothing is "perfectly clean" :)

impressive work, how are u going about doing reflections on the car?

add a skylight, that will help out the shadows.

The tire groovs look to... to soft maybe? maybe make them more crisp?

In general, the car looks to soft, I'd make some of the lines more crisp.

Thanks for your comments Error404. What do you meen by making "some of the lines more crisp" ?

By lines, I mean angles in the car, by crisp, I mean sharper, more like a corner.

I'm not familier with F1 cars, but it looks like some of the edges could be sharper.

Hehe ... inte ofta man ser en F1 utanför ICA ...

Nicely modelled and textured. Good job

En svensk i forumet, trevligt! Jag brukar använda den bilen när jag handlar :)

I willl see if there are anything that I could make more sharper. My thought was to make it aerodynamic and soft.

Nice model :)

I'm no expert but here's my feelings about the composite (assuming that the background is final) :

overal comment is you need to match the photo's (lack of) quality.

you need to desaturate the colors (look at the other reds in the picture).

the image has a grey-blueish toned haze that also needs to reflect in the composite

reflections on the f1 need to be lowered a little and maybe a bit blurred too

i think you need a blue fill light coming from top front right of the car (looking at the other car's blueish outlining)

the car's outlines are too sharp compared the the real cars

the shadow is much too dark and blurry

the darkest parts of the render are too dark

but all that can easily be done in pshop :)

think i'm gonna stop now...
hope you don't take it wrong, i'm not bashing just giving some useless personal insight :)

would love to see more

The only comment I have is that the tires give it away that the model is CG cause the look CG. Improve the tire and the picture would be convincing

great work(modeling) here, impressive!!! but you forgot the shark grills!!!!! of course this might not be the F2003GA.Is this last years' car?

EvilBasterd, what is it that makes the tires look bad (so I know what to improve)?

Meka, thanks for your "heavy comments" :) They will help me.

Mora, it's not a Ferrari. I have only used some "Ferrari textures" because I didn't know which textures to use. Of course I have been inspired by Ferrari (and other F1 cars) but it's my own design.

If you compare it to other cars in the picture, I think they should be a bit darker

And notice how the front of the tires are lit, though the sunlight is coming from the back. And the back of the tires are dark

maybe something to think about????

I have listened to your (and others) comments and tried to improve my work. Here is a new version:

your f1 is way to small, a normal f1 is about a third longer and about as wide as a car and a half (compaired to the cars in your foto) so basicly scale your cars width 50% wider and length about just as much.

btw, its pretty nice :D

Markuza

BiTMAP, the length of the Ferrari F2003-GA is about 4.5 m and the white car (toyota celica) in the picture is about 4.42 m long. I agree that the F1 car should be bigger, but should it really be so big as so say?

Hmmm, don't have any actual measurements handy, but I think the car does look too small - perhaps not by as much as stated earlier (which would be about right for a Champ Car), but still too small. In particular, I believe that the airbox of an F1 car would be higher than the bottom edge of the windows on a normal passenger car, so it may just be a matter of proportions.

Other than that, the composite is much improved in the second version, and the modeling itself is very good.

how about adding some red reflections onto the white car? that would make it alot more realistic. also, youre shadow needs to be sharper, like the celica's.

Hey now that's much better
still think the tires are too yellow-ish tho

looks like you have a bit of streching on the front wing where the vodaphone logo is located (maybe not but it looks like it)

keep it up, you aren't very far from a great composite... my only suggestion now is to carefully watch how the rest of the image behaves to integrate that into the composite. ;)

mb2, I assume that the airbox you are talking about is the one above the driver's head? :)
I felt that I must ask :)

I'm working on a third version that I can post here, so I will try to adjust some thing you are talking about.

Hey, so far I think this looks pretty sweet! If you're trying to match the photo, I would agree about desaturating the color of the car a little bit. I might increase the shininess ever so slightly as well, some of the highlights on the top of the car look a tad too wide. Anyways, just my thoughts, good luck!

See if you can get a bit more rim light coming from the back side (opp. camera) of the car. Almost like reflected light coming from the Camry. That would help to carve the top of the car out, which I think gets a bit lost. I also think the red is a bit too even. Tires are a bit too grey.

Other than that, the car looks really nice. The modeling is perfecto!

I'm working on the white light rim that separates the F1 car, but I can't find any good way to do that. I have tried to use another light, but it's hard to make it lit where I want. Any suggestions?

The shadow is too dark and blurry, this totally gives it a away that the car has been composited. Also the tires seem a little metallic, I don't get the feeling that it's rubber. Good model though.

Keep it up!!

Markuza, I've been modeling an F1 car too. Its nice to see that I'm not alone. I'm really digging your model.

I'm sort of designing my own f1 car as I go along. I'm taking some cues from the f2002 and the f2003, the 2001 Sauber, and last year's Jordan (I've always liked Jordan's front winglets). Here are some work in progress shots.

Muki, nice model :) Keep up the good work. Do you have a thread in this forum that I can visit to see your work and maybe I can give some helpful critique (maybe not) :)

As you I'm inspired by the Ferrari models and other F1 cars, mixed with my own design. It's pretty fun to work in that way, a little bit of reality and a little bit of fantasy.

I decided to model a F1 car, since I'm a real F1 fan, so it was an easy choice :)
