Ok. Not sure if anyone is trying this, but at least i'll be making a the flying dutchman, with some special armour plating and stuff. Will be making a concept art and post it later.

Started working on one of the engines for the dutchman. Still havent made the concept on paper, but trying to visualize how it should look like first. So this is kind of an concept and wip since i'll most likely will be using the same engine in the final image... more or less.

Just a quick size test. The engines might be too big. But i'll figure that out as i go... I just started the boat, so it's really crappy quality.

Thanks. It's going really slow.. going on a almost 12 hour train trip (12 hours back again on sunday too) so i might be able to draw some sketches... just have to find my sketch book. Currently out of ideas though... so.. hope i can get some ideas on within those hours of train ride.

Ok. So I started iplementing some ideas into the ships hull. Still got a long way to go before i can call it "almost finished" but so far i'm happy with the results. C&C are always welcome.

:beer: Thanks. Still got a long way to go. And as a friend of mine pointed out too me, i still need to portrait that the ship is running on steam :P
But all that will become clearer. Going to be adding the steering panel and the guns/cannons to the ship soon, and the armour ++. Got a few more ideas i need to finish up before i can start fixing on it and texturing.... :S texturing :S
Oh well. Still have 17 days left. And perhaps this time i'll actually submit a final image... perhaps. :P Got some great ideas and pictures in my head... just have to model it in real life too :P haha..

Cannon And Engine WIP
Just a quick update to report that i'm still working on the image (usually i tend to drop out of the contest 20 days before the end :P.... hope to finish this time)
Anyhow. Mostly just placeholder. The engine is not decided yet, i'm reading up a bit on steam engines.. don't understand a lot so probably have to hide it somewhere :P, pipe is more or less a placeholder too, i'm going to be adding perhaps 2 pipes on the ship.
The cannon is a mix of normal/old cannons (cannonballs and stuff) and a machine gun thingy. Still working on the functionality of it (luckily it just have to look good).
I'm most likely going to start on the ships armour and more minor details tomorrow. Still need to decide some small stuff and start on the wheel/control panel which steers the whole shippy.
I have now started the transformation to steamy ;)
oh well.

Have now removed the armour and added a second rotor instead of just one. A friend of mine pointed out that a double or two rotor(s) was more likely to keep the ship in balance, and the ship looks better too.

Deadline is not far off, so i have to finish up all i can. I still have some stuff to do on the ship's hull, and the wheel and some small details, but i think i'll actually make it this time :)

Just did some changes to the engine and the way they are able to move. I've now made it possible to rotate the hover engine, making it able to move faster.

Ok. So, i'm doing the final render now. (Hoping the computer won't crash... again) There are things that i could fix on the boat. For example add more/better textures, better background, more props and all that. But the thing is, my computer is really slow, and so far, rendering takes at least 3-5 hours with what i've got now. And I had to cut down on unnecessayr(yes that word is spelled wrong) parts, such as bolts, and stuff that can't be seen from the camera angel, because the rendering crashed on my crappy computer. But so far it seems as it will render.
I added a toon theme to the whole thing, with a strange background that is a mixture between water and skies... not a good mixture, it's rather a strange one that doesnt give sense actually. I'm very happy with the result, as the whole thing turned out better than i had expected, and i actually going to make the deadline this time. Thanks for the replies. Hoping to get better and to enter next time too. Good luck to all of you other contestants.

Okey, so for the first time I actually made the deadline.. Well, not the actuall deadline, but would have made that one too :P So, here is my final image. A lot could have been changed, but being my first cg challenge i've finished i'm happy with the result.

Software: Blender
Made the flying dutchman with steam powered engines, hover engines powered by steam, and propells powered by a steam engine. And guns that rely on pressure to function.
