Hey how many of you use Deep Paint with Maya successfully? I'm pretty knew to the Deep stuff, but i'm having trouble getting my data back into maya from deep. It seems more seemlessly integrated with Max...

C'mon guys if your using Deep Paint/UV with maya, sound off on this!

Thanks.

Save as an OBJ from deep paint and load that in maya. and manually assign the textures.

The plugin tends to not work most of the time.

Ok yeah, I've been trying to swap back and forth using the plug-in...:surprised

with little result. Thanks

I just wanted to mention my problems with deep paint as well. if im in projection mode for example, i send to photoshop do my painting then send back, everything looks fine. Then when i apply projection mode to get out of it, i now have these dark edges were my brush strokes were. this makes no sense. to me. so in photoshop i have to clean up again. i stopped using deep paint3d, i found using maya to do a rough texture to paint then send to photoshop to really do my painting, i just started this method. so far of course its working perfect cause im really only using photoshop. i wish deep 3d did work cause it has projection mode, but so does maya. i have more problems with deep paint 3d , but that projection mode is the one that bothered me the most. oh yah its weird undos. if mi drawing with my pen, like one stroke is like 4 undos? bah!

Are you mainly painting on nurbs? PaintFX doesn't work on poly's correct?

no, its always polygons im painting on. im just realived that i dont use it anymore. i would check out zbrush, i had the demo awhile ago. that program is overwhelming. it does everythign and way way more. my only stick with it is its "overwhelming" plus i find it annoying that once i deselect what im painting on, i cant select again. but i would try that out.

It works fine but you may need to get the upgrade patch to work with your version of maya, otherwise you will need to output .objs and import them into Deeppaint... Again, go to the right hemisphere site and see what patchs are available.

Artisan can paint on polys just fine.

I just select what I want to paint in Maya, and select Right Hemisphere > Paint selected with DeepPaint3d. When in Deep, you just select File > Export > 3D application, which updates the maps in Maya, with no need to import and export models or flatten artwork etc..

You can also use the Right Hemisphere > update texture maps feature to refresh bitmaps when you've changed them in Deep or Photoshop..

I'm not clear on the brush border thing. Sounds like a brush sampling option is set funky.

Ah, ha! i fully forgot about artisan for a minute there..

Yeah i'd like to get at least a good base underpainting pinned down and then bring it to painter/photoshop.

if you like ill just give you a brief exp of how i do it, how i learned it.

get your uvs set, do a rough painting on your model in maya. send to photoshop. fix up . when you look in maya if things dont line up . like if you drew a line from one uv border to another you can fix them problems with maya artisan paint . thats basically what i am doing.

I'm starting to use Zbrush to texture stuff. It works very well but the main texturing "module" is really a script. What's really cool is the paint creation tools.

Sometimes it crashes, though. 3d Paint might be more stable (at 700 I hope it is :)), but Zbrush will easilly do it's job. If anyone wants some help feel free to PM me. I had to come up with some 'tricks" to get exactly what I wanted. The Zbrush community support is unparralleled.

cheers ktpr
