View Full Version : can you copy and paste frames in character sets?
wasbubs 12-01-2008, 07:48 PM I've been trying this for a few minutes now. I created a character set of my character. I've never used them before so I thought I'd try it out. but I have a problem with copying and pasting frames. Doesn't work. Is it possible like keyframe animation without useing character sets I could just copy a frame and past it like normal. I want to copy my first frame and past it to the last so that the animation will loop better.
Also on a related note. when I was animating today I did notice the the autokey didn't work with the character in a character set. which is odd because it worked yesterday with another animation.
any Ideas would be helpful.

When you want to copy a pose, you have to deselect everything and obviously have your Character Set selected.
When I copy/paste with anything selected I get weird transformations.
Autokey works only on objects that already have a key.

that doesn't seem to work. I made sure my character set was selected. and I made sure nothing else was selected. I copied and pasted the frame but it still didn't work.
It did though put a red tick on the frame I was pasting to. but none of the animation from the frame I copied from copied over.

Oh man... weird transformations is right... I was scrubbing through just the frames I wanted. 1-17 but when I went beyond that a leg just kicks the air randomly for like 100 frames...
WTF is up with that? Are character sets good to use? I thought them and trax were supposed to be a great new option for animation... So far they've slowed me down instead of sped me up...
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.
Me neither. It`s hard to guess.
I use it on daily basis and usually don`t have any problems. Usually ;)

Cool. Thank for the help though.
I'll just keep using it and hopefully learn how to avoid the problems...
Oh, btw, when you want to copy pose on only a part of your rig (ex. hands), then you have to turn off your Character Set.
If you won`t you`ll get those weird transformations.

OH! Good news. that actually what I was trying to do. but, I'm away from maya right now, wont deselection the character set remove the keys from the timeline?
It will, yeah. But you can turn it on again after you copy what you want to copy.
And don`t worry, your keys will be waiting for you there ;) :D
