This is the first concept. Not very accurate or detailed, just to get the ideas out on paper.

Heres the main shape of the bird.
So far I've made the furnace and the main pistons.

I've gotten the wings on.
They flap when the gears in the midle rotate.

I've added the internal gears, so the motion can get from the pistons to the wings.
