Hi,

you could prepare your stuff in Photoshop and then render the effects (Shadow, Bevel,...) and then import it into AFX.

As far as I know and as far as I had the experience, AFX doesn't support the direct import of such layer effects data...

I have an animated video with a blue background, and I want to change the blue background with a photo or another video, and the object in the center drops a shadow on the new Background,
and I want to apply this all in After Effects, or if there is any other program that may help me do this.

Well, chromakeying the animation on the blue background will give you a TRAVELLING MATTE.

This matte will be used in your final comp, for putting your object onto your final background.

But you can ALSO use your travelling matte to make the shadow, by gaussian blurring it (try a value of 5-10), and displacing it (a little to the down an left), and for instance use that as a travelling matte for a darker version of the background (or a solid, semi-transparent black), making it look like a shadow.

After Effects will do this nicely.

Cheers,

aeFX supports alpha channel

if you can, render it.

if your software cant render alpha, you have a plenty way to go.

1. effects - keying - colorkey
2. use luma matte

Hi,

Do this:

1. Create a new comp with the desired size, or the needed size if your output is for broadcast

2. Import your footage files in your project (Chroma and background)

3. drag the background and the chroma files to the timeline and drop the files there.

4. Apply a Effect --> Keying --> Color Range

5. Set the Color range keyer to YUV and sample the color that you wanna keyout.

6. Add Effect --> Keying --> Spill Supressor (this will kill some of the residual chroma color)

7. Add a Effect --> Matte Tools --> Matte Shoker (this will remove some of the noises left)

8. Add a Effect --> Perspective --> Drop Shadow (2D drop shadow, has no perspective. If you need the perspective you can do via procedural way or using a plugin called Real Shadow from Puffin Image Lounge)

9. Render your work. :)

If you need I can do a movie from this process to you, and upload him, and also for the procedural depth shadow.

I hope that solves your problem.

See Ya! 8)
