Hey everyone,

I just finish looking through some threads here on cgsociety on this subject and I just want to get things clear.

Currently I finish rendering my file in AE, in quicktime formate H.264 best quality. Now the file size is around 28 MB.

I recently played with the FLV encoder by adobe and it made my file to 4.8MB.

I was wondering, what is the most used compression software out there that people are using? I was told by companies that they hate to download latest flash driver. So I was wondering the alternative in compressing my file for the web.

I was told I should look in to Sony Vegas? and Quicktime pro. But Let me know what you guys are using or suggest what I should go with.

I don't follow. Regardless how you compress it, people will always have to install something/ already have something installed. QT is no standard component on Windows systems... At any rate, I don't see how some moronic over-paranoid security policy of some IT administrator in some company that may potentially want to hire you should influence your decision. There's a good chance, 80% of people will have some version of Flash. Beyond that, all you can do is provide alternatives by also offering QT and WMV and hope that it will satisfy everyone.

thats how I feel as well.

After a seminar from game conference, it seems that majority of them dislike flash sites, and flash in general. I'm thinking about just going quicktime at the moment because of it. Though before I choose, I was wondering what others may have in mind when compressing their files for the web.

Dislike flash sites? Odd - being that flash is served up on quite a few sites.

Anyway - to answer your question. Flash is easiest because most browsers will have the plug-in. If the said recipient doesn't have the plug-in they are more than likely not going to have the latest and greatest plug-in for Windows Media Player or Quicktime.

You have to ask yourself though - would you really want to work for a company that A: stymies it's employees by preventing them from having the latest video players or B: is so out of it they didn't know that flash or Quicktime existed. No matter what company or genre you go to work for - if it is a video house they will have no problem viewing flash content or Quicktime. A gaming company should have no issues with flash or WMV. Offer all three - just put the flash piece on your site and have download buttons for the WMV or QT. If all else fails put it on Youtube.

Mylenium - absolutely bang on - could not have said it better myself.

Flash is absolutely superb (IMHO) I love FLV.
LiChih - Games Companies generally claim to be cutting edge futurists in actual fact I have found the vast majority to be run by 'old schoolers' with bad habits, non progressive workflow/production processes and draconian attitudes to work/life balance.

The big guns are usually the ones who understand and embrace technologies introduced after 1999

I am intrigued to who the company is.....everyone has Flash FFS - it's pretty much defacto?
