Adobe (http://www.engadget.com/tag/Adobe/)'s research laboratory has been toiling away with a sophisticated interactive video-object manipulation system, which gives video editors all sorts of creative windows with next to no rendering lag.

There is already a player doing that http://www.aviz.fr/dimp/, but it seems they are testing different possibilities

That is amazing, definitely breaks the boundaries of video editing to date, can't wait for this to be implemented into current Adobe products, or maybe even a new one, thanks for sharing!
