i just started playing around with final gathering and global illumination, and here is the result of a rounded box with a spotlight (emitting photons, 8,000) pointed at it with final gathering, global illum, and caustics applied.

my question is, how can i get rid of those sort of "streaks" (for lack of better terms) away from the bright area at the bottom of the box?

the box is a poly object...

any ideas?

thanks

this happens because photons hit the blue box, take its color and fire down on the plane making it blue....to remove that, there are several ways.
Turn off the GI and use final gather...or if you want the gi, then in the shader of the plane under mental ray options turn down the irradience color by 50% or so.
