Greetings everyone!

First off, I must confess undying love for the ability to create in this manner. I have an extreme amount of admiration for 3D artists like yourselves. It is my hope to eventually reach the level you folks have taken this art to.
I have been teaching myself modelling in Maya and after reading some of the posts here I took the advice of the experts and started learning to crawl before I could run. I have been modelling simple things like apples and similar stuff, along the way to becomming more experienced. I have a question to ask, and please forgive me if this has appeared here before. Is there a link to some resource or perhaps a pdf document that tells, in a nutshell, how and where to get at some key features? This would include the usage and what it does. I'm talking about features like extrusion, revolving, smoothing a sharp edge, recessing areas, cutting geometry (to later mirror it or create a symetrical mirror), etc. stuff like that.
Again, my sincerest apologies if this request has been posted before.

Just keep up the great work you folks have been doing. It's very highly appreciated.

Even though i am a max user i am pretty confident that maya should explain this on its help file or its manual...use the features names as keywords, you should get some results.

Hi Marchalis

I started off learning Maya through books like:

Learning Autodesk Maya 8|Foundation +DVD (http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Autodesk-Maya-Foundation-DVD/dp/189717733X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1228213794&sr=1-1)

Collecting tutorials on the web (good ones)

For character

http://www.androidblues.com/howto.html

for hard bodied Nurbs Modelling(phew!)

Anyway, its a start

If you head on over to www.3dbuzz.com, there's a host of free videos that use Maya to model many things.

Pay attention and you'll be able to spot where tools are located. A lot of the vids can be streamed from the site.

They also offer intense training DVD's, if you're willing to splash some cash.

Enjoy.
