View Full Version : 3ds max limb rigging, Help needed

I posted this in the general Max forum earlier, but I figuered it can't hurt to ask here, too.

I am currently trying to build a rig for a creature I made. It's a kind of alien spiderlike animal.
The body was easy to rig, since it is not very flexible, but the legs give me some problems. This is the first rig I am trying to build on my own, and the ones covered in any tutoral I found were for human or human-like creatures, but this one has slightly more joints than an average human leg.
My first try were two IK chains for the legs - one across the first three bones and the other over the next two - and separate IK chains for the feet-bones, but it was rather clunky and didn't behave very well. (I think part of the problem were the range of motion limits I set for the joints to avoid intersection.)

Any help or advice is highly apreciated.
