Hey there, this thread is to post my experiments and wips of My works in 3D, regards..
I usually delete the posts that I don't find interesting or are older, that to have an order in my Sketchbooks, so don't worry about it cause I'm updating my works frecuently in both 2D and 3D to have a better portfolio.
About me...I'm David Reyes, recently graduated as Graphic Designer in 2008, I work mostly in 3D with XSI/Blender and in 2D with Painter and PS.

Hi nice sketchbook!
Lot's of practice which is the key to success ;)

I like your Cézanne studies... you know he used to simplify everything he saw into simple shapes... boxes, circles, etc...

The last portrait looks like a big leap forward concerning anatomical accuracy

Keep going!

Hi!
Being productive... I like seeing that :)
When drawing and painting heads, be careful with the placement of the facial features.
Why not try a more constructive approach for a while? Loomis and Hogarth have some excellent advise on drawing heads in their books ;)
Doing some human skull studies will also increase your understanding of the form of the human head.

For your full figure paintings, I'd suggest thinking about edge control and for color about saturation/hue/value relation.

In any case, keep active :D

it's a very good start for the first time! I'd suggest immediately creating a copy/clone of your object so you see the whole character rather than just a half... it's very deceptive working with just half of one. It may seem like it's a half but then when you duplicate it it often turns out that it's way too wide and the middle of your character looks wide and wonky. It's already visible in the chest area of your guy - it's not really cut in the middle :)

Keep it up!

It's great to see your progress, stridiggio. I actually find your painting work stronger than your charcoal work, which is odd since you have the extra complication of colour to deal with :) But your painting stuff is less harsh - I think the face of the kneeling girl on the previous page is quite beautiful.

Also liking the naturalism of your Woody Allen.

Final test skin for this base mesh with SSS, is not too realistic but is the base to work in a future in the UV map in Painter or PS to change the skin color, add details and so on and so forth, and then plug to the respective channel of the shader, depending of the project.
I know that this is irrelevant since this is not anatomy properly. But is like my memory to remind the process of this. :wavey: .

Hi, nice works and progress. Here are some points I see about your character.

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2720/girlsi.jpg (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=girlsi.jpg)

About testing eye with caustics: there is another way to make caustics effect. far easier and superior.
I too was doing this eye challenge, and was quite confused with the eye structure. I studied different tutorials and medicine charts. So actually it's way easier to create eyes with caustics effects and the eyeball consists only of 2 parts:
-the ball itself (with the iris and the black hole in the middle, which I did as a separate piece of black circle, but you can just make there a black color (0% color(0,0,0) and no reflection), if you don't want an additional piece of geometry)
-and the "glass" part, where you apply reflection and transparency. You can see the structure on the render. Though I applied reflection also to the eyeball, and bump. Turn off cast shadows for the glass element to speedup rendering.

So to create caustics effect, you make the iris a bit concave (yes, it's not very correct, but you will never see it actually), and the more concave you make it, the more caustic effect is prominent. To make the caustics effect, you must apply a reflection map to iris of the iris itself with color (not black-and-white as you do for the rest of reflections), it will make it look really llike caustics, very bright.
Yet make the iris reflection stronger than the eyeball reflection, so this will make it look like caustics and not like the rest of reflection.
I adjusted reflection glosiness to look it more focused and strong if needed as you can see in examples. I was a bit lazy to create a separate reflection for the eyeball, so the eyeball looks a but harsh in 2 and 3 examples.

Hi!

I would strongly recommend doing a lot of greyscale studies.
Think about values and form, edges, anatomy, light, perspective,...

Try to use a hard edge brush. Your paintings all seem too blurry and soft.
In any case, you are making progress, so keep going!

Mister3D: Alexander, thanks a lot for your time.. I really appreciate it!, agree with you in some parts of the overpaint you did, and will be doing the changes slowly, Arms and Legs, the Belly, Elbows, Shoulders and a bit of the Neck.
I really like the progress of your Eye so far, is Awesome!. Yep, I like the trick for the caustics effect, I have to do it also, very interesting and with the IR for the Cornea and a tad of viscosity this will be Perfect! Keep it in! and thanks for share your knowledge achieved again.
cheers.

NR43: Johan, thanks again for the advices, twice that you told me that and other artists do it also frecuently these lastest months, -the main reason is that I'm using the Tinting Oily Round 35 Brush- for the whole work in my illust/lineart/concepts,,and no more, having said that, it brush has that muddled and hazy effect :D ok :D, I must leave it apart because is very funny the effect and like it a lot but.... is the true. cheers.

stridiggio, I like the girl in the painting at the top of the page. Keep working on it with some harder edged brushes and give it some sharper details and it'll come out real nice. I think your composition looks good, but try to give some directionality to the lighting of the girl. For example, you could make it not frontal, but from one side and add some tint to the light. It will immediately make it more live and interesting.
The bird looks a bit gross because of eyes to me, the parralel between wings and eyes isn't working here to me. It's better to make it more usual, as if something is not natural, it looks not convincing and strange. I can't imagine this creature to exist.Though it's good you are trying to experiment.

Adjusting face, the rotate image is to have another POV instead of flip the canvas horizontally (to check more mistakes...) (focus, focus, focus).
Here I worked more in eyes.

This was the Exhibition of Andy Warhol Foundation here in Bogotá that finished last week, I saw it just like three times :D, and the most interesting works to me were this Blue series (of Jackie,1964) from the left side on the wall, I have to experiment that....Love it the high contrast of this and the bluish color that actually is more accentuated in the original.
