1.question, no mapping with mentalray
what is the reason that i canīt see the adviced bitmap material in the mentalray rendering? When i use bitmaps on diffuse chanel, the objects get rendered in black.

2.question, raytrace material
everytime i choose raytrace as material shader, the programm chrashes by starting the renderprocess with mentalray.

3.question, multimaterial
why canīt i use max-multimaterial by render with mentalray?

4.question,
are there special materials for mentalray and i didnīt knew it?

5.question
advanced lighting override-material doesnīt runs with mental. why?

conclusion
perhaps all these problems exist because mentalray isnīt correct installed.

at the starting of 3dsmax, there appears an announcement Loading DLLīs
DLL<C:\Programme\3dsmax\plugins\maxtrans.dlr> failed to initialize.
what can i do to repair this bug?
the bug exist since mentalray is installed.

thank for answers, colomea

hey man. I met the same problem some days ago. I found some great info for me in Maya devkit MR getting started directory. Try their small tuts. Very useful.

Hmm....

1) Do you have UVW mapping for the object?

2) Have no clue. Raytrace material works fine with MR on my machine.

3) Same with raytrace, it works fine. The only problem I see is displacement not working.

4) Well it depends on which shaders you do know are in there. There are shaders that are hidden because not all of them work too well yet. Read the help file for all the shaders that are in MR.

5) As far as I know, Advanced lighting override only works with radiosity(Advanced lighting tab in scanline renderer).

Also, what version of max are you using? I'm assuming 6 since that has MR built in. But you need to do a reinstall anyway. That is the translator file that converts Max shaders into Mental ray ones I believe.
