View Full Version : CS4 - biped with cane IK question
mediaho 06-17-2003, 08:01 PM I have a biped character who I would now like to animate walking with a cane/walking stick. How do I plant the bottom of the cane and animate the characters arm without the cane slipping? I would hate to have to key every frame with this thing. That never looks good.
I thought props would give me what I need but I can't seem to set any IK properties for it.
Any and all help would be appriciated!!

You can plant the cane where you want it by linking it to the hand bone, then use the Anchor Hand button to lock it down while you animate the arms.

Unless you mean you want to angle the cane as it moves, in which case you would need to rotate the cane as you move the hand forward, which shouldn't be too bad for keying, as long as your pivot point is at the hand.

I'd avoid linking it directly to the hand bone. Either use a dummy as a go-between, or use a list or link controler so that you can have him/her release or pickup the cane if you want.
