Hi !

I have some footage that is shot with a video lens and as you all know its not the same as a film lens so I have tried to find out what it is equalavent to, but has come to a dead end.

maybe some of you guys know how to find the right focal length

the info is

12mm video lens
Chip 2/3" 16:9 Wide screen

Ive found a calculator that gives me the Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal Angle of view
http://www.usa.canon.com/html/industrial_bctv/ERC/calculator1.html

and it gives me this

Horizontal Vertical Diagonal
43.6 25.4 49.2

some of you guys must have tried this before ;)

If you're setting up a camera in a 3D application then it would probably be best to set the size of the film (or sensor) in the camera or application preferences. That way whatever units are given for the lens focal length will be correct without the need to convert them. Cheers!
