View Full Version : noob question: material problem
Cube6 06-17-2003, 03:52 PM How the hell do I get maya to stop assigning materials/texture to every polygon I make? I did that to add a reference picture in Maya to start modeling, but damn Maya is a real pain in the ass right now.
I have tried resetting the tools and everything but I swear I'm going to throw my monitor out the window.

As you start with every new scene, maya always have one material as a default one ( Lambert1 ). Every surface that is generated is automaticly linked to the Lambert1 shader.
So in order to avoid this, you should make a second shader that holds the texture. So all the other objects will now will be "clean".

yeh, sounds like you assigned atexture to your default shader, just delete that, and create new shader.

The material editor is confusing. How do I delete or restore the settings for the default shader?

I restarted my computer and that seems like it did the trick. I didn't get a chance to do what you said. Thanx anyways I appreciate the help greatly.
EDIT~~~~~~~~~
I encountered the same problem again and breaking the connection worked like a charm :D

good. yah, no need to restart you computer. if you save your not changing anything anyway. just break connection, once you learn maya more, you should just graph network on that shader and delete she inputs.
