Itīs a Deinonychus dinosaur. Took me 3 days to put it up this way. (itīs still in a symmetry object and WIP, so some areas still need some tweaking)
I hope you like this one too.

superb model. would be great if this little baby could turn his head toward the screen and make a big roar. do u plan to animate it ?
if u consider posting some others images sometime, a close-up of the head/neck would be nice :)

looks great Samir! it's pretty disgusting that you can wrangle great code and then take a break and model something so good! darn you!

:arteest: ROFL  See, I was an artist, than I became a programmer. After that I met Trinity and a guy named Morpheus and they somehow called me Neo. Now I am an artist and a programmer ;) (seriously, there is still a lot to learn for me, though I have to say that this is my best model so far)
Thank you!!!

Very nice model. Love the skin folds on the neck.
Did you use any of your plug-ins when you were modeling?
Thatīs a nice model, Samir! All you need now is: model inner mouth, teeth and tounge-> paint some maps -> code awesome muscle system-> animate!

Hi,
thanks. Yes I used DeepCutLiner (exactly for the wrinkles of the neck but also when it comes to move points to each other, where I often used DeepLiner), my MESS plugin (all the time), VNormMove sometimes, of course CurrentToSelection and MainDPacker for Edge Cut and Edge Melt (itīs a pain to always get right click -> Edge Ring -> right click -> Edge Cut Dialog -> Click Ok. With MainDPacker it does Edge Ring and Edge Cut automatically for thatīs what I use most).
So yes, I am really using almost all of my modeling plugins. Thatīs why I wrote them. Most of the time they were missing when modeling...

Here's a dino I've been working on. He's rigged and ready to animate, but it's very slow animating...
Also, if you come up with a good muscle system I'd be VERY interested. I tried some xpresso bones but they were a little unpredictable.
Nice work, by the way!!

Hi,
looking good so far.
Here is some crit:
I wonder how this guy sees whatīs in front of him, for his eyes are deep in his skull :) A bit too deep.
Have you used a small texture map size for him? The horns look a bit small sized textured. The bump could be a bit more "fish-like" (I donīt know the english word for "schuppig"), though I like the texture.
The chin bone doesnīt seem to be connected to the upper head?
(poly-by-poly modeler you are huh? ;)
Anyway the lower head part needs to be much more powerful for he is a big predator. What kinda dinosaur is that? Looks like an Allosaurus but some areas are too vegetarian, like upper arms are a bit too big.
I like the legs though.
Is this high-res? Good work so far but a bit of tweaking needed IMO. Well, I would tweak it :).
If I create a good muscle system you are free to buy it :D
Keep it up!
Best

Thanks for the crits! Sometimes you look at something so long you don't see it anymore...
Yeah, I get a lot of complaints about the eyes, but these guys couldn't see diresctly in front of them. (Yes, it's an Allosaurus). I mainly went off some scientific skeletal drawings. This is ny first work. It's taken me forever!
Textures might look a little weird in some places. The UVs aren't perfect (the head modeling is VERY sloppy!)
I've been looking at Motionbuilder form the animation (when Maxon finishes the FBX plugin), otherwise in Ciname on my Mac G4, dual 800, 1.5GB or RAM, it's still slow going.
Well, thanks again for your input. Can't wait to see yours finished.

Excellent model! Can't wait to see the textured final version.

Designer, glad to see you taking the pressure off of me. ;) You know one of the new theories is that this raptor might have had some semblance of feathers. Maybe a job for Shave?

Hi MJV,
yes, I know this theory (I read an article about it). But to be honest I donīt really believe in it. But might be a challenge :)
Thanks!

Hi pupii,
thank you. You know this pose of the Deinonychus is famous! Really. There are about 2 or 3 kinds of Deinonychus I know, and whenever I saw a picture of them they were in this exact pose (no matter which kind!). Itīs kind of the standard pose for it :) You know my uncle living in the states, once made a gift to me (about 4 or 5 years ago), it was a book about dinosaurs and this image was in there. here is the picture out of the book though this one is a Deinonychus antirrophus (a brother of the "normal" Deinonychus):
http://www.the3ddesigner.de/bilder/deinonychus_book.jpg
Itīs a nice color but I am of the opinion that a predator (of this midesize) had a more camouflage skincolor, so I will add some of it surely. The pose though is definetly the way for me to go. :D
Thank you!
@MJV: You can also see the feather theory underneath the normal Deinonychus. Looks pretty odd doesnīt it? :)
Did you know that Deinonychus translated means "horrifying claw" - seems obvious since that guy is in bad need of a pedicure. :)

Samir: How did you make the claws? Did you use matrix extrude? I used that for mine thinking they would be easier to do that way, but there was a lot of trial and error to get them the way I wanted. Still not as pointy as I would have liked to get them...

Hi,
I used my matrix-extrude deformer for them and then tweaked them manually.

Currently rigging here is a pose already...just a default material on it for speed purposes.
Heīs still a bit stiff and should lean more forward but hey I am still rigging :D

Nice dude really nice. I must have missed this thread originally.
I love the modeling top notch great detail.
Of course writing the plugins that you use to model with should give you a slightly better understanding of how to use them effiecntly.
But I love it dude keep up the good work. If you want more fish type scales check out this thread.

Samir: Looking good! How do you get the calf muscle to not intersect with the thigh muscle when the leg is bent? I'm having a heck of a time getting that to work with my dino.
Katachi

Hi,
Itīs just weighting. Try to weight the back of the thigh muscle also with the calf muscle weights.
