Hello CG Comunity!
?
I? m a CG member since a few months now, but this is my first paticipation to a CG Challenge, and i must say that I? m really thrilled taking part!
?
The myth I choosed for this contest, is the Myth of "Lancelot du lac" and his forbidden love for the Queen Guinevere which caused his fall..
Lancelot was beeing known to be the best Knight of the round table, winning all tournament, his fidelity to king Arthur, his courage and masterly swordskills were legendary.
With 17 after beeing nominated Knight from the round table by king Arthur himself, he felt almost instantly in love with Queen Guenievre, who he saw during the ceremony.
Right after this, he offered her to be her "champion" which she accepted! and this was the beginning of a forbidden and very dangerous passion.

Good luck to you all!!

cheers!
Fabien

Hello again,

I decided to work further on this sketch and add rapidly some colours to see how the picture works.

The concept depicts the moment shortly before a tournament where the Queen offers her Scarf to her designated Champion. This symbolic gesture was a way to officialy showing the court who was her champion and through this, she was also wishing luck to his knight. Through colours & composition I wanted to accentuate the contrast? toughness ( lancelot) versus purity ( Guinevere ). The fragility of their forbiden love is shown here through the huge mechanical hand contra the slim silhouette of the queen. The red Scarf floating in the wind represents love and actually the only Bound they have..

Salut!

Hello people!

here is a "colouring" based on the first sketches i did for a few weeks. I think I?m gonna stick to that brownish industrial feeling in this piece, not too dark but still dramatic with a lot of stem and smoke.

nice composition, but i prefer the 1 where you can clearly see that she lets go of the cloth, & the way the robot fingers are position makes it look gentle.

I agree, it looks like the robot is grabbing the hand of the lady which might not be what you are going for.

Please don't hate me for this, but when I first saw the pic with it's massive black silhouette and frail looking woman, i thought "ho, waw! A really cool steampunk version of King Kong!"

You've got an awesome image coming up mate, can't wait to see it finished (and I really like the real concept too!)

Hello People!

thanks again fo all those constructive critics and encouragements!

Here is a further wip of my scenery. After looking at it I thought the perspective needed some more "dynamic" and I placed the center of attention/persp, wich is the queen, further to the top by adding more structure on the bottom.
I modified the Hand?s position and the queen size to get more the idea that the queen is actually giving her scarf to the Robot and not that the Robots is trying to takes her hand.

All critics and comments are wecome.

Again good luck to you all!
Cheers

Really lovely work so far. I really love all of the detailing - from the different kinds of architecture to the details on the giant robot, it all feels very period. Nice job!

The picture reads to me like the robot is giving her the scarf instead of the other way around. I wouldn't have known it was the latter unless I read your note above. I think one thing that could help it read the other way is the wind direction: With the wind blowing towards the right, it gives the impression that the scarf is moving from right to left, towards Guenevere. If the motion of the scarf was left to right, it might feel more like the scarf was moving from her on the left to his hand on the right. But overall, feeling like the picture was one of him retrieving her scarf, i had no problem with it and thought it's all coming along really nicely. Good luck with the rest!

Hey Fabien nice work so far. I am in agreement with Michael and his suggestion. In addition, it will be very interesting to see how you will play with the light source in this piece since you have reflective surfaces working with at the bottom. What is very interesting about that tho, is the fact that the light source at the top coupled with the reflective surfaces at the bottom will almost certainly "compress" the mech in the middle so it's an easy giveaway for the focal point. For a piece as beautiful as this you don't want to "give away" something that easy, so I would suggest maybe rotating the image a bit so it's on a diagonal to shift the position of the focal point and add strong dynamics. Just a thought :) Keep up the good work

Hi everybody!

I´m really glad to receive so valuable comments and Tips for my entry!! It´a real help and most important it makes even more fun working on that piece now :)

To DaVee, Hector6087,fipo and mr peace: Thanks a lot for those compliments and encouraging words!! I´ll give my best to match your expectations!

To Walrus: You are actually right about the scarf... It´s still a point I´m strugling with!
I tried to change the direction of the wind, as you proposed, but it means that everything else would follow that "rule" than... the steam would blow toward ( or on ) the queen, and the other Flags at the bottom would vraped themselves against the building... so after many tries I think I found the solution, by letting the Wind blowing from left to right but this time both characters would hold the scarf, The Queen would have the left end side and the robot the right end side, like a bound. Anyway, thanks a lot for the very valuable observartion and the constructive critics!!
By the way, I love your Work for the Challenge!, it has a lot of Humor and dynamic

To Kdot: Thanks again for the Tips! you are right about the lightning, it sounds like a easy thing but it coul be very quickly overdone or saturated. For the moment I´m building the rest of the Glas structure which takes longer as I thought, I hope to start with Lightning, reflections and Highlights tomorrow!

To RayBender: Thanks for the compliments and I´dlike to reply you the same compliments about your work I just saw, it is a very nice piece of art!

Again good luck to you all and keep the pressure, only 1 week left!!!

Cheers

Hello Cg?s!

here my actual WIP . I worked the last few days on detailing the building and roof glas structure at the bottom, as well as putting some more dramatic to the scenery by adding an extreme lightning. I think it?s progressing well for the moment, but the deadline is aproaching and I?m still strugling with the Balance.. I thought about integrating some more life to the scenery, like people on the balcony, left from the queen and work out those black smoke clouds above the Robot. Do you people have any more suggestions? Help would be welcome :-)

Good Luck to you all and Cheers!

Hello People!

again a further WIP of my concept. I pushed the saturation of the sky to emphasize the stormy setting sun feeling on the scenery. Beside this I work here and there on details. I put some white doves at the bottom to counter balance the very busy uper half of the Picture, I?m not so sure about this though.. comments are as usual welcome :-).

Good luck!

Lovely, Fabien. I really like the transparency and lightness of the architecture. That's really hard to do!

Don't know about the birds. They look good to me, but they do compete a bit for focus with the main action - though not much. I feel I want a bit more contrast and resolution of the head to really engage me with his personality, but I'm sure that's coming. Very nice tender moment you are capturing.

I like the understatement of this.

Good luck!

Bonjour Fabien,

c'est une image superbe tant par sa composition (complexe sans perdre l'oeil), que par le choix de couleurs, la finesse du tracé et bien sûr l'interprétation du thème.
Je vous souhaite bonne chance pour le concours.

Great job on your piece. It is really well done. The colors are great and the over all atmosphere is very nice. My only though is that it would nice if the lines on the robot were worked over, but that's just my opinion. Great job!

Hello people!!

just read your last comments and I´m very thankfull for all the positive critics and feedback I received :bounce:

Lah: Thank you very much or the nice comments, actually I wanted to paint over the lines at first, but after a while the picture looked so diffused, that I thought a little bit of crispness would help to focus on the main action. But thanks anyway!

Julien: Merci beaucoup pour tes encouragements et compliments, ca ma fait vraiment plaisir :D

Kdot and Roger: Thanks to you both as well for your compliments and wishes, it´s not only nice to hear it´s also super motivating :applause: !!

Wish to all of you guys good luck for the last days of the contest! and also for the future!!

Cheers!
