Just noticed this over at GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/all/news/news_6030144.html):
Criterion and Discreet announce a strategic partnership to develop, deliver, and promote innovative game development solutions.
Criterion Software and Discreet, a division of Autodesk Inc, have today announced a strategic partnership to develop, deliver, and promote solutions designed to improve the game development pipeline between Discreet's award-winning 3ds max modeling, animation, and rendering solution, and Criterion's RenderWare software.
"Discreet and Criterion have been working alongside each other in the games market delivering great workflow solutions for PlayStation 2 and Xbox console development," said Paul Lypaczewski, Discreet general manager and Autodesk executive vice president. "We are excited to expand our relationship further to evolve the future game development pipeline, as well as to provide seamless technologies for games companies to deliver high quality content within the fast-growing mobile sector."
The two companies already have a number of mutual customers including the likes of Ubi Soft and Konami, and this joint initiative is a response to developers' and publishers' increased need to deliver both console and PC games to market more quickly. According to today's press release, the initiative will also help companies to repurpose existing games for other platforms such as Nokia's upcoming N-Gage.
"We are constantly striving to provide our customers with the very best tools with which they can effectively deliver the very best games on any platform," said Mike King, chief operations officer, Criterion Software. "Discreet's 3ds max technology has a huge uptake within the development community, and with RenderWare being the middleware technology of choice, it therefore makes absolute sense for us to combine our efforts to help developers further exploit the work flow benefits that come from using RenderWare and 3ds max together--and that goes for any game content for any platform."
