View Full Version : Read ram speed in Bios???

Ok I've got a question. I have recently learned that processor speed makes up most of render work for C4D and graphics card only speeds up viewports. Now What about ram and its bios settings? I currently have my Bios setting for read ram at "fast" speed rather than "normal", will this make a difference in C4D? If any, what would this likely effect?

I guess I can find this out on my own but just wanted a quick answer.

Hi,
i doubt you would realy see a difference. Maybe you can measure the difference with a benchmark but i would make me wonder if you see a difference of more then let's say 2 or 3%

Why not download the Cinebench benchmark utility from Maxon and try it both ways?

in a really large ram intensive scene, youmay see a small difference, as its pushing data faster back and fourth, but I think the difference would always be fairly minimal, likeiin cinebench your taking a few points. I'd probably stick to what you know works.

As a rule the only thing that counts for 3D apps is raw processor speed and fpu performance. I did a test a while back trying different bus speeds (i.e., faster memory performance) and it made zero difference.

well.. coming from other applications I know that it would make sense the CPU power would be your single best determinant for render speed (rather than RAM) when you consider all the floating point calculations that have to occur. I tend to think of RAM as aiding in texture loading and the sort.

i have tried different ram settings in the bios and there is no difference to speak of. the only time it pays off to change anything is if you have some serious lockdowns or crashes then you should probably slow down your ram a bit. if not there isnt much to notice if you run failsafe or optimal or whatnot.

i have 333 ram and if i clock them down to 266 there is merely a yawning difference.

depending on what OS you use and what apps you need running in the background while you work you can decide how much ram you need. xp suck up about 200mb i think. you should want to have atleast 100mb free while your working because using swap-memory on a drive is laggy as &//@£.

to finally answer your question:
no, but if it would it would likely affect viewport action in heavypolygoned scenes. :p
