Hello, :wavey:

For A project I want to recreate the Effect of the golden compass.

I mean the dust effect.

You can see it on this video at 1:20

It seems to be a mate on particle. But I believe it's more complicated than that.

I don't know if AE is the best program to do this, or which plugins to use?

Any advice will be great.

Thank you for your help.

PS: Excuse me for my bad english, I try to do my best.

If I were going to try to replicate that effect in AFX I would use Trapcode Particular and a dose of expressions. You can search for tutorials on that plug in the sticky thread above.

Good luck.

Bonjour! ;-) I don't necessarily agree with Mr. Nieves here. This could be done much better in Trapcode Form. A lot of the stuff looks like layers and layers of particles simply swirling around with Fractal Turbulence. Likewise, you could create the circular ripples more easily in the plugin by using a circular texture, animating an audio effector or the size of the particle field itself. I recommend you download the trial version and give it a whirl. There are some presets included and you sure can find others for inspiration on the web...

LOL, nothing to agree with ;) ... potato, potato, more than 1 way to achieve an effect. Form is just another option... one that in turn is actually cheaper ($199 vs $299).

I don't use Form nearly as much as I use Particular which in my case is a lot more useful; anyway I'm gonna crawl back to the 3d forums, where I belong to.

i believe I saw some DVD material of that compass effect where I interned this summer, and it might have been a gnomon masterclass/some kind of production-focused DVD about Golden Compass, Rythm&Hues & Framestore

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but if you really want to dig deep, you might be able to !

A great thank you I'll try this asap.

I'll try Trapcode form to see what I can do with it.

I'll post the result
