Greetinz....in my recent attempt to understand the art of shading I have naturally come to some conclsusion and some questions, if I may?
In geathering informaiton from anumber of resources, concerning the use of shading in CG, in addition to information provided by people in this board, it has become clear to me that shader are used for specialised applications...such as skins..clouds....hair...etc.....
Knowing this, my questions now is what phsycial properties(reflection..etc) are considered and modified to Desribe the properties of something like skin...or water...and how?
This question recently came from reading one of the Gnomone High End Magazines...Where there was a description of the process taken to create some of the characters in LOTR..........I was concerned Primarily with the shading aspect of character generation.....they gave a breife descrition...of how they went out and studied squide skin...to create the skin of the huge octopus like monster in LOTR .
I was intrigued...and the above question arose to me....primarily....what properties of the skin did they take note off??? then how did they go about abstracting these properties for a shader, using RSL???
I hope I have made my question clear and would most appriciate a response ......maybe some one from Pixar or ILM is here:rolleyes:
THankyou in advance
