First off I want to say the personal best I can do within this challenge is to get through it! I have quite a strange working practice.i.e I rarely do any preparation! I'm entering this competition to force myself to change this as I know it isn't a great way to work. I had this idea for a long time that I thought might work for the comp. That is, something based loosely on the Nutcracker. I wanted a half woman half Mig fighter jetting out of the canvas firing a Russian nutcracker doll from a gun. Couldn't get this to work as I can't pull off this kinda stuff with any grace. Also Nutcracker is based on a fairy tale not a myth (same ball park different game).

heres another one. Anyways decided I could pull off a more pin-upy pose better, as is my want.

I decided on this. I want her metallic elements to blend seamlesly with her skin I think. Don't want her to look like Robocop though.

Ok. this is a proper sketch/quick painting now and I'm startling to formulate the idea of a metallic siren on the clouds with an obvious lure over the men in the backgound. They're shadowy and anonymous at the moment. Not sure what to do with them at this stage. I'm having thoughts that perhaps they might be dead icons(Elvis,James Dean) . It might be interesting to play on Rock n Roll mythology as well as that of the siren, harpee or whatever you want to call her.

Thanks very much for your comments. Still a bit unclear about which direction to take: to go for a 'Nutcracker' theme or this idea about dead idols. I do have a very firm idea of what to do in the latter case but if I pull it off wrong it's gonna be in very poor taste so gonna keep it under wraps for now;)

haven't got very far with this mainly cos I need new nibs for my pen and I'm skint. Have formulated the idea though now which is this gal feasting on Prometheus' liver whilst watching him chained to a rock in the sky. God Im horrible..

My latest WIP. Lots more to do. Nothing like leaving it till the last minute! Just to clarify my theme as the story telling elements are missing at the moment. This lady takes the place of the eagle that pecked out and chomped on Prometheus' liver each day. Prometheus, when I paint him will be tied to a rock hovering in the sky and my gal will be holding up a pot of finest Promethean liver pate in her right hand..

Zeus was furious with Prometheus for giving man fire. His punishment was to be chained to a mountainside and have his liver gorged upon by an eagle. Everyday the liver grew back and the torture began again. My steampunk take on the myth is a twisted love story. Prometheus fate is to continually gaze from his floating prison down at the winged siren who languidly chomps on his liver.
