View Full Version : Trouble With Particles

hey,
if anyone can help me i would appreciate it greatly.

i have a scene with some character animation.

to add to it i instanced some particles to be leaves blowing in the wind. they have 2 fields on them and are being emitted (obviously). i had to put their start time (on the particles) at frame -800 so that they would be in the perfect spot by frame number 1.

if i play it on the play every frame setting they come into play nicely, but only when i start from -800. this is very lame.
when i go to render them they do not show up.
what the hell?
its almost as if maya batch.exe wants me to start from frame -800.

to add to this dilema, I have already baked the particles to keyframes, but they still act like they were never baked to keyframes.

thanks.

Well for one thing, instead of trying to start the simulation at -800 frames, you should find the point in the simulation that you like, and set that as the initial state for the particles, that way at frame 0 your particles will already be in that state that you wanted.

yep.. dan is right.
additionally if you still have problems rendering you can try creating a disk cache for the particles animation. in some very rare cases i found out that this helps getting around batchrender problems.

thanks you guys. you will have to forgive my ignorance, but i do not use dynamics very often.

how do i set the particles to have an initial state?

and how can i make a disk cache for them? are this an option within maya?

By the way, I forgot about the render problem when I made my first post, that is actually something that happens to me once in a while as well, and creating a particle cache fixes it. I don't see anything about this situation in the docs, it's pretty lame really.
