View Full Version : Live
Ken Koala 06-17-2003, 04:09 AM Has anyone used Live for photomontage work?
If so, some tips would be appreciated.
I have read the manual and everything is describing tracking points etc. All I need is the camera to be set up in the right perspective.
Regards
Ken

I can never get very good results with it unfortunately. I think it needs upgrading.

It doesn't need upgrading (not too much), it just needs a LOT of track points. Make sure you choose patterns that stand out from the rest of the pic (a flower in grass, 90 degree angles, high contrast areas) put track points anywhere that looks good for em, and also make sure you have some that are in the distance as well as up close and everywhere in between, you'll need lots of reference points for the perspective to be right. Also try to choose points that stay on camera the whole time, these tend to track easier. That being said, make sure you track points that come from off camera too, especially if your vid moves around alot (you can track backwards to help with that). Just keep adding track points until you've got the whole indicator bar a solid green, then add more ;) It's difficult to get good matchmoves, but its not impossible if you put some time into it.
Also watch each track point as it tracks (top right corner) to make sure it doesnt jump around. If it does, just stop the track where it jumped, reposition, and start to track again.

Heh, I guess I totally missed the point of your post. I didn't realize you were doing work with stills (photomontage...duh). I have no experience with that, but I hope what I wrote might help you in some way anyhow.
It seems odd to me that you would want to use Live to create this, a project like this seems better suited for something like AfterEffects. Maybe I'm just missing the idea behind what you're doing.
Anyway, good luck.

Just wanting to use Live to setup the camera for rendering in the right perspective. Then photoshop the the proposed building/people etc onto the photo.
And your comments will help.
Thanks

If you are just trying to match a still try creating some dummy objects which match objects in your scence and locate them accordingly the move the camera around till it all lines up.

Thatīs right, just create one or two dummy objects and match the camera to the perspective (change position, orientation and angle of view).
But you donīt need Live for that. Live is for tracking camera movement over time (over live plates).
For what you want, match it through the normal Perspective Panel in Maya. Place your image on a backgound plane.
