View Full Version : AE CS4 problem? Mov. files not previewing
Pesto 11-24-2008, 03:43 AM Hi all,
I have imported folders of movies to put in my composition. They are QT movies. When I click on them (to highlight) in the project panel I do not see a prview of the animation above. I use to in CS3. Is anyone else having this problem?
Thanks
BTW - I have the latest MacBook Pro with 4 gigs ram if that helps

Please provide more info about CoDecs and formats, the source of the files (Captured in FCP? MXF from a camera? AVCHD files from a camera?) and your QT version.

The movie files say "QuickTime Movie". They are the movie files from Videocopilot (the Evolution collection - excellent BTW). As for the codec used, etc.... I don't know. Can't MAC users see a movie preview when they click on a movie in the project panel? I know with PCs you can't, or at least I never could.
Thanks

The Evolution stuff uses PhotoJPEG and PNG compression, which is bog standard. Strange that you cannot see them in CS4 but in CS3 they show up. Do you use OpenGL? If so, it may be a resource conflict with MediaCore or QT's acceleration functions. What graphics card do you use?

I have the latest MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. And I double checked my PC which has AE CS3 - I cannot see preview movies. Maybe I am wrong and you can't see them regardless of Mac or PC in CS4.

I think I completely misunderstood you. Re-reading your initial post finally got rid of that blockage in my head. Yes, you will not see animated previews in the project panel, regardless of platform or QT version. Unlike Premiere or Motion, AE does not have an "inline playback" mechanism that would allow for such functionality. Previewing is however able in Bridge, so if you use File --> Browse in Bridge, you can get some of that functionality.

No it wasn't you I think I explained my concern in a confusing way. Thanks for the tip about using Bridge to preview animations!!
