I am a big BTTF fan, so i thought it was a perfect chance to try out my first CgTalk challenge. Of course it is not perfect but i am still pretty proud of it. I am planning to tweak and make this animation better. Especially when i learn to use VUE better so i could create more realistic world. Tweak some lighting and animation.

The biggest problem was the computer. Viewport lag and long render times were big issues on this project.

I learned a lot from it.

I really like the design of the Duesenberg 1936, and also enjoyed the concept of steampunk. So I just combined the two, gave them an era, and put them into context. So here is the two steam test flights, one of which I didn't do WIP pics on, so theres something fresh to see here! Hope you enjoy! It was a great learning exp! :)

The girl has ncloth dynamics, maya fluids where used for the flames on the car, and particles for the dust. most of the 'look' was achieved in compositing - facilitated by rendering in multiple layers with passes. the background buildings and sky, the helipad, the girl, and the car are all separate layers. also each layer has different passes as necessary for it, such as motion vector, diffuse, specular, zdepth, etc.

DESCRIPTION:
Eclipse technologies Gia. This has been a very exciting project for me, for a long time I had so many ideas going through my head, one of them was to design and animate my own car, I had come up with the idea of doing design for a non existent company called eclipse technology. I originally wanted to do a car chase but that would have been a bit to complicated for me, I really am in awe by the entries I have already seen.
My friend Jtype (google it) had provided me with the music, he helped with editing and slowmo. I love the music and I feel in some way the nooby animation and editing, may not do the soundtrack justice, so I intend to continue working on this project after the challenge is over, to increase my skills and get one of my friends to add music. Since my skills and processing power are limited I decided to to keep the animation short, and try and increase the quality of the 7 seconds I already had. Thanks for watching, and all the best to the other challengers

Our Goal was more towards integrating the cars into the live plate still got work to do on it like improving on keying , integration and adding effects. We have two more shots for this sequence which we r gonna keep working on ..... this battle comes to a very dramatic end :scream:

We used maya , Nuke and Boujou. Cars were renderend in .exr format with multichannels, sky was replaced in nuke using 3d sphere and projecting sky texture onto it.

If your going to link to youtube and have uploaded it with 'high quality' as an option (which most of you have) LINK the youtube link to the HIGH QUALITY video, not normal. To do this simply add &fmt=6 to the end of the youtube link and it will go to the high quality. Watching them in HD makes the world of difference.

It seems a little bit odd to me that the entries that seem to be getting all of the votes for a visual effects war (FXWARS) are entries that actually do not contain any visual effects. Most of the entries are achieved with strictly compositing techniques. There isn't any rule that states entries must contain some form of dynamics within a 3d engine? If not, why would this be called FXWARS and not COMPWARS? If I had known it was a compositing competition, I would have entered as well. Little did I know, you did not need any form of visual effects to enter (and potentially win) a visual effects war/competition. Just the thought that crossed my mind...

My vote goes to Cody Bieberly and the VFX Assassins.

Good show from all, though! There were some really good designs, and great motion-tracking and compositing at work in a lot of the other entries!

Surely you are mistaking "visual effects" for "FX"? Two different things. VFX is a broad spectrum term encompassing all manner of effects that come together to form a final rendered image, while FX specifically refers to particles, dynamics, etc. While I agree that the FX in the FXWars title should surely imply the use of particles and such, VFX doesn't necessarily.

I wanted to make something everyday like, something as simple as a secuence of the car geting out of the garage, I used the movie the fifht element as my animation reference, all the elements are 3D, I used Maya, rendered with mental Ray and comped in After Effects.

And the big one....
