Hi all!

I'm a little late but I think Ill make it ... Im entering the challenge with the idea of a lepricon with a steampunk rainbow machine ( pot of gold ). Im finishing school in about 3 weeks so Im very busy doing demo redering and working on this challenge at school. Started modeling the Leprichaun 2 days ago, this is what I have now; its going to be a lot more steampunk of course, adding some accessories on the hat, making a pipe, a can and some other cool stuff. Ill come up with a very sketchy pre-viz tomorrow at school and post it asap.

First time doing a challenge, Im very excited about it, I wish luck to all contestants!

Just want to share a little bit of my "knowledge" about challenge here, which i surely would not teach in the regular class.

1, if this is your first or second challenge, your biggest task is to COMPLETE it.
2, once again, if this is your first time, while making sure your progression schedule is realistic, you should focus on practicing your primary skills, as for you, modeling and texturing. At the end, you should give yourself a bit time investigating posing/lighting/composition (my humble suggestions), yet don't sunk into it too deep.

Some general understandings here: it's not the "topic" that helps you win a challenge, but the visual impact that you are creating. You proposed 3 different legends. As I said, they all work, no difference. What's challenging is how you use good composition/lighting/coloring/posing to create an image that attract viewer's vision and impress them.

If you can complete this image on time, great.
If you can make ppl remember your work, SUPERB.

Understood, I'll do as you suggest

here is a composition test. Do not look at persceptive and angles as theyre a little off... the big pot you see is where going to be rainbow machine with, of course, a lot more steam machine details. The leprechaun is sitting on a rock or a big mushroom, smoking his pipe.

Will update soon...

Model not done yet. I still want to put more accessories like bags / gears / tools (?) / etc...

Ive done some proportions adjustments and it is definitly more steampunk.
Demo rendering is taking much of my attention and especially my time, but I should be ( I have to ) done for next tuesday...
Once Im done with this model, Ill try to find better composition but not for long cause I really want to start the machine so...

updating soon

Nice work so far! I like the model and the details a lot. The beard is not terribly convincing - maybe something with alpha would work better? - but the rest looks good. Good luck with the rest!

MartinNielsen / walrus ; Thanks for the comments guys! I know about the beard but it was just to give me a basic idea of the look ( I just put some cones in place ) its gonna be less spiky of course, anyway I have to remodel it

Jack; I'm already there! :D

I think Im done modeling this character, I spent enough time on it. But Im of course open to any suggestions to make it better.
The completion of this char leeds me to the rainbow machine. I have pretty good idea of the concept for it in mind. Im gonna start the model today and it should not take more than 3-4 days if everything goes well with the redering of my demo...

Updating a draft of the machine asap

There it goes, modeled in 3-4 days just as planned. I had some composition issues, as you have may noticed, I'm gonna post a new composition test ( a very quick one, because I don't want to get too much into that at this stage.. ) Now doing the pile of gold, should not take too much time anyway. Then;

1- UV character (2-3 days)
2- Gathering up references / images for textures (one night...)
3- Texture character (3-4 days)
4- Post update
5- Texture machine (3-4 days)
6- Post Update
6- Rig and pose character (1-2 days)
7- Post Update
8-Continue scheduling....

total (estimate over estimate); 20 days / 38 days left

Goul / MartinNielsen / rasher73 / dapi / JackZhang ; Cheers guys ! Im so enthousiatic ! I'm happy that people like the idea Im presenting here. The final image is definitly not going to be dark, this is just snap shots of the modeling stage here, its too early to think about lighting. All credits to you Jack !

I went through many real bad lucks during the holidays. That's why I can't finish the challenge in time. Im really sad about it... But I'll finish the piece and post it on the 3DStills section of the forum. I just hope those bad lucks wont happen during the next challenge...

Good luck to all contestants

the textures are good in general. what really hurts my eyes are the hand texture and the shirt.

yet, it's a lot better than your blood elf. I definitely see improvement. Don't be sad. I think you did well in this challenge. after all, it's your first one.

how's your demo going?

I'm truly sorry that you were not able to finish on time. Unfortunately, I'm facing a similar situation. However, I can't wait to see the finished work and I'm certain that you'll be ok at the next challenge.
