View Full Version : Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: David Kozma
David Kozma is entered in the "Steampunk Myths and Legends" update: View Challenge Page (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/steampunk/view_entries.php?challenger=16769)
Latest Update: Storyboards / pre-visualization: layout 01
This is my (our) first challenge here. I will participate in it with some of my friends and colleagues. In the first weeks the team is just to people: József Czakó alias "kacorkiraly" and me.
Our video will based upon an ancient inca creation myth. The story of three giant eggs, one made of gold, one made of silver and one of copper. these eggs were brought to Earth by Viracocha, the main god of incas. From these eggs borned the incas themself: from the gold egg came out the aristocrats, from the silver came out the aristocrat women, and from the copper one came out all the other inca people. This story was their self-verification of tyrannizing every indian tribes of their land, since in their other myths the sun-god Inti (who is the father of Viracocha) made mankind from simple mud. With this myth, they made themself superior to others.
Our story will be an invasion story of the steampunk incas. They come with a gigantic air-ship-propeller-plane-monster-robot-god combo vehicle (Viracocha) and reach ground in 3 huge landing eggs...
next time we come with concepts...
this is our first completed concept.
One of the warriors I would like to appear in our trailer. much more to come!
With the surface of our steampunk vehicles and robots I would like to refer to the structure of the monumental inca stone-walls. (I will post some reference pictures soon)

Nice one! I love the look of the vehicle, and its scale with reference to the character. It's like a walking chair instead of a huge hulking mechanical beast or something....looks great!
We will sure have those kind of bigger (fully robotic) beasts too :)
Sounds like a very interesting concept.
Nice design with the spider walker
Good luck, and welcome to the challenge, Inca team :)
This is the first sketch of my fellow Kacorkiraly. I really love the head of this robot, so maybe that will be the head of The Inka - the king of the incas - with a little more heroic body and a special weapon...

loving that concept, love the style, very original design too.
looking forward to updates :)

great sketches and details...i really like the inca steampunk'd warrior ..those neck mechanics are awesome :D color scheme is also lovely....can't wait to see it modelled.....
keep up this good work!
Now two sketchy ones from me too.
I think I have to start drawing the much more important things than these warriors. These are good eye candy (I hope so), but many of them won't appear in the final video.
This is the other one. I like the overall mass of it, but I think it's not inca enough. Tell me what you think!

i've been dumbfounded... so impressive machines!
wow, theses sketchs are exellents...The clockwork/machine stuff brush you used to draw give an interesting style

I really like your teams concept work that you have produced (especially all the gearwork)
Cant wait to see the models!!

Hey nice stuff! I like your concept stuffs. All the gears in there really gives it a really cool style!
I like steam warrior 2 and 3. but yea i agree with the fact bout it not being inca enough. mayb you can make it more inca with the texture? coz i really dig the b/w sketches:) !

This stuff is Wicked!
pure awsome in my book!
Sorry for the slow updates. We try to do our best here. Right now I work on the storyboard. (our story changed a bit in the last days...)
This is the second concept of the Inca by Kacorkiraly. This will also change, because we make incas the good guys, so they can't have such frightening face and skulls on their armour. Certainly their enemy can!
And whoa! Thanks for all these great responses! :)
That's really energize us!

you guys gotta move faster tho your doing video and your characters look complex....nice tho, the very last update look a lot less steampunk than the rest.

Ahhhh! so many nice concept studies!!! Really inspiring!
Hi! Slow update again. This is the first layout image I have done, showing the first scene in our trailer. A civilisation before the incas, whose steam technology is dirty and evil. As in reality (at some precolumbian tribes) their skulls were deformed to a longer shape, this will help differentiate them from the incas. The big ship in the bacground is the god-cargo-ship Viracocha witch brings the inca warriors to this land.
In our story the incas are good and they have superb steam technology, witch would help this dirty land to be healthy again.
Another thing, that as we discussed it lately, we may use mainly (but not only) 2d planes in a 3d enviroment with 3d fx, rather than full cg modells. I imagined something like the kung-fu panda intro sequence but slower and darker and less cartoonish.
I think this because -as lynch said- we have quite detailed concepts, a little time, and unfortunately a bit limited modelling skills.
I don't know if this is allowed in this challenge... if not, we do it the common way.
Donglu-LittleFish & Rger: Thanks a lot!
