I get a Macbook Pro, also for some occasional 3d stuff.
I don't want to spend money for a renderer so I will use blender. Like back in University!
I hear Maya has anyhow some troubles on Mac OS, so I would be glad if I can skip this licence. Blender basicly does everything I need, I just worry about the performance on OSX. On XP it runs like a charm...how do they compare?

It runs great. I generally find OSX has better all round OpenGL performance. The Macbook Pro is designed for this kind of work; 2D, 3D, editing, compositing etc

lukasdesign,
just make sure you don't get a mac with intel GMA graphics card.. i have one myself and it sucks serious balls..
there is a bug with OSX that makes Blender (and other 3d programs) lag to the extent that they're not usable..

these times are over...all the macbooks (including AIR) are equipped with a geforce 9400M. Not a killer but better than any Intel solution. However, the Macbook Pro is equipped with a switchable 9600gt
