Hey everyone, hope your doing well. I wanted to share a awesome interview we did over at Digital Apprentice Workshop with Industrial Light and Magic Animation Supervisor - Hal Hickel.

I had the pleasure of working with Hal on several projects at ILM and he's a great guy, talented animator and awesome supervisor. Some of his credits include: Pirates of the Caribbean Series, The StarWars Prequel Series, Iron Man, The Lost World Jurassic Park, and Toy Story 1.

Hal talks a little bit about his history - stop motion animation - winning his academy award - and the production of his latest completed project at ILM, Iron Man. Don't miss out! Click the Image Above to direct to the interview or head on over to:

I used to work with Hal over at Will Vinton Studios many moons ago. I miss him a lot. He's incredibly talented but more then that, he's just really a straight up, great guy and a lot of fun to hang out with. I remember when Hal left to go to Pixar. It's funny because I had just seen him in Portland and then a few days latter I went to the MacWord world expo in San Fanciscoin (in '94 I think) and one of the things we did while down there was to go to pixar and meet Ed Catmull. This was back when they where still across the freeway from the oil refineries in Richmond. Anyway, We where walking around in the animation department and there was Hal on his first day! It was like, "Hey, are you following me!" :)

AJ - Thanks man!

Arkman - Thanks also! The crawling hole shot was done by The Orphanage. There was a mixup of images and we had to change that! Regardless that crater shot is awesome eh? Maybe someone on the boards knows who animated/TDed it?

ngrava - Funny story! Hal is pretty chill - good guy. Glad to see the positive words about him.

I seem to remember Hal popping up on the Hash3D mailing list back when I first started with the software. Probably my first encounter with a CG "celebrity".
